Sun-drenched destinations like Hawaii and Belize, as well as winter wonderlands like Whitefish and Montana, are offering affordable deals and travel experiences.
Here are some of the most affordable travel destinations to visit in March.
Hawaii
While Hawaii has a reputation for being pricey, visiting its islands doesn’t have to break the bank. Whether travelers seek Honolulu’s vibrant energy, the North Shore’s serene beauty or Oahu mountain’s breathtaking vistas, visiting Hawaii in March can be affordable.
Travelers should watch sale fares and set price alerts to get the best deals.
“Romer Waikiki at the Ambassador is offering a “Winter Beach Days” promotion,” said Ramona Sidlo, global experiences director at Romer Waikiki at the Ambassador. “Book now through March 31 and get a fourth night free plus a $25 daily resort credit. The hotel’s nightly rates start at $160.
In addition, Waikiki’s Twin Fin Hotel is a surfer’s paradise with views of Oahu’s south shore, vibrant design and authentic experiences rooted in Hawaiian culture. Activities include a stargazing event, as well as ukulele and hula lessons. Winter rates start at $170 per night.
Twin Fin also partnered with world-famous surfer Jamie O’Brien to offer private and group surf lessons for all. Group lessons start at $119 for an hour and a half. Starting at $219 per night in March, Twin Fin’s Surf & Stay Package includes a group surf lesson, daily surfboard rental and late checkout for guests who want to get one more wave in before leaving.
Whitefish, Montana
While most ski enthusiasts flock to Blue Sky Resort, lesser-known ski communities like Whitefish, Montana, offer events and significant incentives to draw guests, said Tim Choate, founder and CEO at RedAwning.com.
For example, the Lodge at Whitefish Mountain Resort offers free and discount lift tickets to local ski areas, 10% off dining, clothing, equipment rentals and repairs, 20% off full or half-day ski lessons and a 20% off “friends and family” discount.
Rotterdam, Netherlands
Travelers seeking views of the Northern Lights should consider taking a pit stop in Rotterdam, said Oliver Winter, founder and CEO of a&o Hostels.
“Located in the Netherlands, Rotterdam serves as a headquarters to museums that are home to some of the finest European art, including the Boijmans Van Beuringen and Kunsthal museums,” Winter said. “Fashionistas can experience the “Diva Exhibit” at the Kunsthal Museum, featuring the most daring looks and costumes from Lady Gaga, Tina Turner and Marilyn Monroe until March 2.”
Foodies can choose among Rotterdam’s 17 Michelin-rated restaurants for an elevated experience or eat their way through the famous Markthal food market, featuring Asian, Dutch, Caribbean and Mediterranean culinary delights.
“a&o Rotterdam, featuring modern, clean and private rooms for solo and group travelers, has rooms for as low as 12 Euro ($13 USD) per night,” Winter said.
Belize
According to the latest travel outlook from Hopper, a travel booking app, airfares to Mexico and Central America are down by 10%, with a good flight deal averaging at about $427. Belize, which is just south of Mexico, offers the tropical delights of the Caribbean while not draining travelers’ wallets.
March is a popular time to visit Belize because the average inland temperature ranges from 69 to 88 degrees, according to AdventureSmith Explorations, which specializes in small cruise ship vacations.
Urban explorers may prefer finding deals at online booking sites like Kayak, which lists accommodations in Belize City for as low as $47 per night for an apartment to $157 per night for a deluxe king room at a bed and breakfast.
