The summer is an ideal time of year to travel to the Midwest as blistering winters give way to warm and sunny days. While there are many budget-friendly destinations within the Midwest states, others can get pricey if you plan to stay at a hotel.
To find the most expensive summer destinations in the Midwest, Cheaphotels.org compared the average price for the cheapest available double room across the 12 Midwestern states during July and August. Only well-located hotels or inns rated at least three stars were considered.
Based on this study, these are the 10 most expensive Midwestern destinations. Also, find out how much it costs to live comfortably in 50 major cities in the Midwest.

2. Saint Joseph, Michigan
- Average rate for the cheapest available double room: $274
3. South Haven, Michigan
- Average rate for the cheapest available double room: $256
4. Duluth, Minnesota
- Average rate for the cheapest available double room: $234
5. Traverse City, Michigan
- Average rate for the cheapest available double room: $233
6. Marquette, Michigan
- Average rate for the cheapest available double room: $222
7. Put-in-Bay, Ohio
- Average rate for the cheapest available double room: $216
8. Petoskey, Michigan
- Average rate for the cheapest available double room: $216
9. Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
