Price matching can be your secret weapon to finding the best deals and saving money when shopping. Many retailers have big price differences for the same items. This means it’s a good idea to shop around and compare prices before making a purchase.
Price matching can allow you to buy from your favorite store, even if its price isn’t the lowest. And price adjustments can let you take advantage of sales that happen soon after you purchase an item. Here are some items you can get cheaper using these strategies.
Computers
Best Buy is a great place to buy a computer if you want to see it in person but have located a cheaper outlet online. Best Buy will match the prices of Amazon, Target, Walmart, Apple and more, as long as the item you are buying is the exact same model.
If you go straight to the Apple store for your computer, you won’t be able to price match competitors, but you can take advantage of any sales that occur within 14 days of your purchase thanks to its price adjustment policy.
Best Buy also offers price adjustments within the 15-day return period.
Home Improvement Supplies
Lumber, fasteners and even appliances are eligible for price matching at Home Depot. While Home Depot no longer offers its policy of beating a lower-priced competitor by 10%, you can still save money by doing a quick internet search for the price of an item before you check out at Home Depot.
Keep in mind that it won’t price match one-time deals, such as Black Friday sales.
Tires
While you don’t have to buy tires that often, when you do, it will cost you several hundred dollars. That’s why Discount Tire’s price matching policy is so great. It will price match a competitor for 30 days post-purchase.
Plus, this matched price is the “installed price” of the tires, which includes the cost of labor for mounting and balancing the tires.
This Popular Store Doesn’t Price Match
Notably, Amazon does not have a price matching policy. While plenty of brick-and-mortar stores will price match Amazon, the online retailer does not give you the ability to match lower in-store or online prices.
However, if the price of an item you purchased drops after you buy it, it can be a good idea to purchase another and return the original item in order to take advantage of the lower price and Amazon’s free returns.
