When it comes to electric vehicles (EVs), it often feels like there is only one name that rules the game: Tesla. Not only is there is a reputation that comes with being one of the pioneers of the electric car trend, but there is also a price tag.

However, the biggest name in the EV game and the leader in full self-driving technology now has some steep competition from alternatives out there that seem to be coming with fewer glitches at a much more affordable price. If you’re looking for an EV that’s more budget-friendly than Tesla, here are five models we recommend.

Chevrolet Bolt EV

  • MSRP: $27,495 to $30,695

If you are ready to ditch the internal combustion engine, install a home charging station and fully commit to a plug-in hybrid vehicle or battery electric vehicle (BEV), your immediate thought might be to hit the Tesla dealership. However, the Chevy Bolt stands out due to its affordability and practicality.

By EV standards, it’s one of the best on the market by offering a 65 kWh battery and a 200-horsepower electric motor that can last for a range of 259 miles. If you want something more compact than an electric SUV, this may be a great option for you. Both the Bolt models and comparable Tesla models have decent reviews, but the Bolt is less than half the price of a Tesla from the same design year.

Nissan Leaf

  • MSRP: $29,280 to $37,330

The Nissan Leaf, a pioneer in electric-powered vehicles, has all the bells and whistles you’d want in an EV. Under the hood is a 60 kWh battery and a 214 hp electric motor. Plus, there is a 240-volt Level 2 charger that can charge it in four and a half hours. However, some auto experts think a drawback of the Leaf is that its miles of range is only about 212.

However, its price point could make you overlook that fact. Some other key motivating factors if you are looking to buy include regenerative braking, the e-Pedal, which allows drivers to accelerate and brake with a single pedal, and ProPILOT Assist, which provides semi-autonomous driving capabilities that enhance the driving experience.

Hyundai Kona Electric

  • MSRP: $34,470 to $42,645

The Hyundai Kona Electric is often praised for its impressive range of up to 258 miles and includes features like a quick-charging capability, a user-friendly infotainment system and robust safety features, making it a great value proposition for EV enthusiasts.

Beyond that, the Kona is perfect for the on-the-go family or group of friends that require a bit more utility with cargo space that rivals options from Tesla, especially the Cybertruck.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

  • MSRP: $39,990 to $57,990

When you think of Ford, you may think strong, gas-guzzling trucks or sports cars, but the Mach-E brings the legendary Mustang lineage into the EV market with its extended-range models to get you from point A to point B in style and in a more environmentally friendly way.
