You can find an array of bath, beauty and wellness products at both Trader Joe’s and Target. But which store is better for your budget? It depends on which items you buy — if you pick the right things, Trader Joe’s actually has cheaper versions.
GOBankingRates went through both of these stores’ websites to find out where you can get the best deals on everyday bath and beauty products. These items are cheaper at Trader Joe’s than Target.
And if you’re curious, you can also find out which grocery items are cheaper at Target than Trader Joe’s.
Body Oil
Trader Joe’s Lemongrass Coconut Body Oil is specially formulated with lightweight ingredients like lemongrass oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, virgin coconut oil and sweet almond oil. It has a notable lemongrass scent and is great for moisturizing even sensitive skin. It comes in a 4.8-fluid-ounce container and costs $3.99.
While Target doesn’t have this exact scent, the store does carry different types of body oils. The Palmers Coconut Oil Body Oil, for example, does much the same thing as the Trader Joe’s option. But it costs more — $4.79 for 5.1 fluid ounces.
Body Butter
If you’re looking for something that soothes and hydrates, you can get Trader Joe’s Cacay Oil Body Butter for a limited time. It has a combination of shea butter and coconut oil, but it smells lightly of pink dragonfruit and jasmine. It comes in an eight-ounce container and costs $6.99 — about $0.87 per ounce.
You can also get body butter at Target, but you’re paying more per ounce there. For instance, Soap & Glory’s The Righteous Butter Moisturizing Body Butter costs $3.99 for 1.69 fluid ounces. That’s over $2 per ounce.
Moisturizing Hand Cream
Need some new hand cream for those particularly dry days? For a limited time, Trader Joe’s has Guava Ultra Moisturizing Hand Cream for $4.99. It’s formulated with moisturizing ingredients like coconut oil, vitamin E and shea butter. It also has a tropical scent. The consistency is on the thicker side, so keep that in mind.
At Target, a similar option is the Beloved Coconut & Warm Vanilla Hand Lotion. It costs the same amount, but the quantity is significantly different. While Trader Joe’s container is three ounces, Target’s is only one ounce.
Comforting Shave Cream
If you’re in the market for some comforting shaving cream, check out Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Shave Cream. It comes in an eight-ounce container and is formulated with sensitive skin in mind. Its main ingredients are aloe vera and vitamin E. Plus, it’s paraben-free, vegan and non-foaming. It costs $4.49.
At Target, you can get Skintimate Signature Scents Raspberry Rain Shave Gel for $1.99. Although the baseline price is much lower, the container is only 2.75 ounces. That’s much higher per ounce.
Exfoliant Bar
It never hurts to have a couple of exfoliant bars on hand when you need them, and if you don’t want to spend a ton at the spa, you might want to go with some at-home options.
At Trader Joe’s, pick up an Almond Ginger Scent Oatmeal Exfoliant Bar or two for $3.99 each. Made in France, this cream-colored bar will give you a long-lasting lather and moisturize and cleanse your skin. It’s gentle on sensitive skin and has a subtle, pleasant scent.
You can find exfoliant bars at Target, too, but you might be spending more in the long run. For example, the Raw Sugar Shea + Rice Flower Eco Body Bar Soap costs $2.99. Whereas the Trader Joe’s option is 8.8 ounces, the Target bar is only five ounces.
