Many men gift flowers, chocolate, jewelry or perfume to their wives or girlfriends for Valentine’s Day. But finding the perfect budget-friendly present for the guy in your life can be a little more challenging.
A surprising new survey from Ulta Beauty and Bread Financial revealed men might appreciate beauty and personal care products as much as women do. In fact, the survey showed that men spend $90 per month on personal care and grooming products, while women spend $80 per month.
“In today’s economic climate, consumers are seeking quality and joy at a reasonable price,” said Valerie Greer, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Bread Financial. “Beauty and personal care products are more than just purchases; they’re an accessible gateway to joy, relaxation and self-empowerment.”
If you’re thinking of gifting your guy something he will use and appreciate this Valentine’s Day, consider shopping these top product categories for the love holiday.

Hair and Beard Care
According to the survey, 61% of men splurge on hair care products. This year, find out his favorites or give him a chance to use a new brand or scent without breaking the bank. A good way to do this is trying out 18.21 Man Made, a brand that offers a lightweight conditioning beard, hair and skin oil in a fun tin that looks like an oil can. It’s available in three fragrances — Absolute Mahogany, Spiced Vanilla, or Sweet Tobacco — and costs $30.
Some specialty haircare products can be pricey, but there are ways to save.
“Splurging on Valentine’s beauty gifts doesn’t have to mean overspending,” Greer said. “Start by taking advantage of loyalty programs and rewards. Our survey found that 37% of shoppers plan to redeem points and rewards to stretch their budgets.”
Skincare
Meanwhile, 60% of men focus on healthy skin as part of their self-care.
“These products provide more than physical benefits; they tap into our emotional well-being by fostering a sense of self-expression and confidence,” Greer said. “The act of self-care creates a feeling of abundance and personal investment, which can be incredibly satisfying even when money is tight.”
If you want to help your valentine feel like a million bucks without spending a fortune. “Consider gifting a high-quality skincare set that complements his routine,” Greer suggested.
The Clinique Razor-Ready Routine Skincare Set from Ulta is a great option. It retails for around $55 and includes a free gift with purchase through Feb. 1, 2025. It’s OK if you want to keep the free Clinique Foaming Cleanser or 7-Day Scrub for yourself.
Bath and Body Products
Fifty-eight percent of men surveyed prefer bath and body products as a form of self-expression. Using a signature bath scent can help start the day on the right note. For a thoughtful gift, consider putting together basket of soaps and body washes from retailers such as Ulta that includes his favorite brands like Every Man Jack, Duke Cannon or Jack Black.
“By combining rewards, sales and thoughtful curation, you can find affordable yet meaningful gifts that fit the recipient’s style and self-care needs,” Greer said.
Fragrances
Although perfume is often considered a common Valentine’s gift for women, 54% of men also wouldn’t mind receiving a new fragrance or old favorite from their partner.
“Fragrances and colognes are timeless gifts, and there are many ways to save while still gifting a luxurious experience,” Greer said.
Since cologne can get costly, maximize your savings by signing up for store loyalty programs and using a credit card that offers rewards, Greer advised. You can also cash in rewards for a discounted store gift card and use the gift card for the purchase.
“Timing your purchase with seasonal promotions, like Valentine’s Day sales, can also help you snag great deals,” she said. “Another tip is to look for travel-sized or rollerball versions of luxury fragrances, which offer the same high-end experience at a more accessible price point. These strategies ensure you can gift premium scents without overextending your budget.”
