When it comes to saving money, how much more would spring essentials similar to what you’d find at Dollar Tree cost at a big-box retailer like Walmart? You might save just a few dollars, or upwards of $10 or more, by shopping at the discount retailer instead.
GOBankingRates price matched some of Dollar Tree’s spring inventory to nearly identical counterparts for sale at Walmart. What we found were eight items that are a lot cheaper to buy at Dollar Tree.
Poly Diamond Kite
- Price: $1.25
Are there better deals on diamond kites at Dollar Tree or Walmart? From what we uncovered, the answer is Dollar Tree. A 26-inch poly diamond kite is $1.25 and available in a wide range of character designs: Disney Princesses, Minions, Spider-Man and more.
At Walmart, shoppers will be able to find a 27-inch diamond kite for sale, but having that extra inch might not be worth paying $10.99 when purchasing it online.
Crayola Colored Chalk
- Price: $1.25
You’ve gotta have chalk on gorgeous spring days to set your imagination free!
Dollar Tree and Walmart both carry Crayola colored chalk, but the better deal is available at Dollar Tree where an 18-count package is $1.25. By comparison, Walmart shoppers pay $5.50 and receive just 12 pieces of chalk.
Needlepoint Pruning Shears
- Price: $1.25
Spruce up your plants with a pair of needlepoint pruning shears. These are much more affordably priced at Dollar Tree compared to Walmart, where a similarly designed pair of pruning shears retails for $2.18.
Garden Collection Galvanized Metal Oval-Shaped Planters
- Price: $1.25
If you’re in the market for a metal planter this spring, shop the oval-shaped planters for sale at Dollar Tree.
GOBankingRates carefully compared each retailer’s planter, both of which have the same measurements, and found the A1 Unlimited planters are so much more expensive at $16.87. Yes, we know that includes two planters with your purchase, but that also means you’re spending about $8.44 per planter. Buying a set of two planters from Dollar Tree would set you back just $2.50.
Metal Plant Stands
- Price: $5
It costs slightly less to pick up a metal plant stand at Dollar Tree. Similar plant stands from the Mainstays brand at Walmart are $6.98 each, which puts close to $2 back into your wallet.
Garden Collection 15 Bulb Light Sets
- Price: $5
Get ready to be wowed at how much money you’re saving on 15-bulb light sets when you buy them from Dollar Tree.
A 15-count string of lights from Better Homes & Gardens retails for $21.96 online at Walmart and just $5 for Dollar Tree’s Garden Collection brand. That’s nearly $17 in savings!
Outdoor Fun Iridescent Pinwheels
- Price: $1.25
The price of one pinwheel spinner at Walmart? It’s $14.99 each when placing an order online.
For that amount, you could buy 11 iridescent pinwheels from Dollar Tree and have some change leftover.
Natural Green Flocked Bunny Figurines
- Price: $3
Are the cheaper flocked bunny figurines available at Dollar Tree or Walmart? Ahead of the Easter season, it costs a lot less to buy them from Dollar Tree.
While it’s true that Walmart’s offering includes two bunnies they do cost $12.51 for the set. Buying two of the flocked versions from Dollar Tree is just $6, or 50% less than Walmart.
