A year ago, using ChatGPT felt slightly like living in a science fiction movie. But as artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) evolve, they’ve started taking up more space in our everyday lives. After all, why shouldn’t we put this new tool to use if it can make our lives easier (and more budget-conscious)?
With summer in full force, I decided to put ChatGPT to the test with a simple question: “What are the best deals at Costco this summer?” Below are the deals ChatGPT highlighted.

Grocery Deals
The chatbot started by highlighting some grocery and household deals from Costco’s June and July coupon book. A few of its suggested deals included:
- Bounty Advanced Paper Towels: Save $5.60 (12-count rolls)
- Liquid I.V. Hydration Multiplier: $8 off (30 count)
- San Pellegrino Sparkling Water: $5.50 off (24 count)
- Noosa Yogurt, Suja Ginger Lemonade, Late July Chips, Wonderful Pistachios, Nut Power-Up Trail Mix, Tyson Rotisserie Chicken Strips: All discounted between $2 to $5 or more
- Boursin Gourmet Cheese: $3 off (three pack)
Summer Fun
Beyond standard groceries, ChatGPT mentioned savings on a s’mores dessert kit and the frozen strawberry lemonade at the food court.
“These seasonal treats are worth grabbing while they last,” the chatbot said.
Big-Ticket Items
Savings on groceries and summer fun are a great place to start. But I decided to probe ChatGPT for information on potentially bigger savings.
When asked about savings for big-ticket items, it highlights potential savings opportunities on furniture and electronics.
“Patio and outdoor furniture is marked down across sets, chaise lounges and dining options — often 15% to 30% off during seasonal clearance events like Independence Day and late-summer markdowns,” the chatbot explained.
How To Save Big at Costco, According to ChatGPT
When it comes to locking in savings at any retailer, it’s helpful to consider what you need before jumping into the deals.
“Saving money at Costco goes beyond just shopping for bulk items — there are smart strategies that can help you maximize your membership and consistently cut your total spending,” according to ChatGPT.
During the summer, ChatGPT recommended watching for ‘Days of Summer’ events. “Costco differs across platforms, but past deals include washers/dryers, pools, and massage chairs — electronics and furniture included,” the chatbot said.
If considering an electronic purchase through Costco, ChatGPT recommended leveraging your old electronics as potential trade-ins. Additionally, Costco offers an extended two-year warranty on most electronics, giving you more peace of mind when you opt to purchase through this retailer.
When shopping for a larger item, like furniture or an appliance, ChatGPT recommended taking advantage of any delivery and installation bundles available.
During the summer and throughout the year, ChatGPT recommended frequenting the wholesaler’s infamous food court. You’ll find cheap food that can feed the whole family. According to the chatbot, it’s the “cheapest family meal out there.”
Finally, ChatGPT recommended timing your outdoor and patio furniture purchases to the end of the summer, around late July or August, in order to get the best deals on these seasonal items.

Summer deals have arrived at Costco. While ChatGPT offered some worthwhile suggestions on where to start your search for savings, it’s helpful to tailor your shopping to your unique situation.
