The upward march of grocery prices has continued this year, stressing many seniors’ budgets. The latest Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation data from August 2025 shows that grocery prices rose 2.7% annually, with some items showing huge leaps, like raw ground beef costing 12.8% more annually, eggs up 10.9% and coffee up 20.9%.

Amid these price hikes, it’s important to be a savvy shopper, especially if you’re living on a fixed income or relying mainly on a modest source like Social Security. One of the best ways to save money while still enjoying seasonal items is to stock up at warehouse stores like Sam’s Club.

That said, while bulk buys are often cheaper on a per-unit basis, the higher upfront costs of bulk items might mean that you need to be selective in what you buy. You also might need to plan ahead to budget for these purchases. With that in mind, consider stocking up on the following five Sam’s Club items this fall.

Libby’s 100% Pure Pumpkin

  • Price: $7.58

Nothing says fall like pumpkin. Whether you’re making pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, using pumpkin for a seasonal, nutritious addition to smoothies, or making a savory fall soup, this three-pack of Libby’s canned pumpkin is great to have on hand. Note that these are big cans — 29 ounces each — so you might save them for times when you’re cooking large meals, or be ready to use the leftovers within a few days after opening.

Member’s Mark Organic 100% Pure Maple Syrup

  • Price: $11.98

If you’re doing any baking this fall, or you want to sweeten up breakfasts like oatmeal or waffles with the warmth of autumn, you’ll want to have maple syrup on hand. This 32-ounce jug of organic maple syrup from Sam’s Club’s own Member’s Mark brand is a good value for what can often be a pricey item.

Gala Apples

  • Price: $5.76

Buying produce at warehouse stores isn’t practical for every household, as sometimes you can’t eat it fast enough before it spoils, and you might not have the freezer space to store extra. However, apples are typically a long-lasting fruit, so even those who are empty nesters can likely get through this 5-pound bag of Gala apples. At a bit more than $1 per pound, it’s a great deal for this classic fall fruit.

Cameron’s Light Roast Ground Coffee, Toasted Southern Pecan

  • Price: $16.28

As mentioned, coffee prices are quickly rising. But you can still find good deals at Sam’s Club on high-quality coffee, like with this 32-ounce bag of Cameron’s light roast ground coffee in a toasted southern pecan flavor that’s perfect for fall.

Barilla Protein+ Penne and Rotini

  • Price: $8.98

While pasta can be a year-round staple, it’s great to have on hand in the fall as the nights get a little colder and you want a warm, hearty meal. You might even add some canned pumpkin as part of a seasonal, cozy sauce. So this four-pack of Barilla Protein+ — with two 14.5-ounce boxes of penne and two of rotini — is good to stock up on, especially because it has more protein than traditional pasta, and protein can help you maintain muscle as you age.
