Housing prices are through the roof, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the northeastern part of the U.S. With average home price in Massachusetts over $600,000 according to Zillow, you may think that buying a home for $100,000 is a pipe dream, especially if you’re looking for luxury.
Depending on your definition of luxury, however, there are some locales in the northeast where you can find a home for $100,000 or less. Here are four of them.
Albany, New York
Most locations with homes for sale at this price point are in very small cities or in rural areas. Albany is an outlier, with its share of multi-family properties, some of which can be had for $100,000 or less. While these homes may not fit everyone’s definition of luxury at the moment, there are some that have remarkable potential for improvement.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
While you won’t find a luxury home on the Main Line in Philadelphia at this price point, there are some options for soon-to-be-luxurious living in the city. Townhomes and multi-unit properties that need TLC — sometimes a little, sometimes a lot — can be found in Philadelphia.
Hooksett, New Hampshire
Mobile home parks have come a long way and some of them can be quite luxurious. Manufactured homes in mature communities, like this one in Hooksett, NH, often include a carport or garage, a porch, and updated kitchens and baths. Properties in such places can be had for $100,000 or less.
Brookline, Vermont
If your idea of luxury is beautiful views and efficient space, a tiny home might be the abode of your dreams. There’s one available in Brookline, Vermont for $49,500 that features large windows and a sleeping loft. It’s even on wheels, so if you don’t like your location, you can move your home somewhere else!
Even with all the news about home prices and interest rates rising, you can find some luxurious housing in the northeast for $100,000 or less.
