Reselling trends come and go, but some designer fashion brands consistently stand out for retaining high resale value. The fashion resale market is booming, and shoppers are increasingly turning to it for high-value investments.

GOBankingRates spoke with Jennifer Johnson, owner of True Fashionistas and successful reseller, to learn about the best designer fashion brands for resale. So, without further ado, here are the designer brands she’s found consistently resell for a profit greater than $1,000.

Chanel

Luxury and classical style are always associated with the name Chanel. According to Johnson, “Chanel is one of the best brands that resell at the highest profits. For example, the Chanel 2.55 is a classic handbag that sells for double or triple its original retail price.”

Chanel’s timeless appeal is about their iconic status — and rarely have they discounted their products. Johnson said they hold their value because “they are classic favorites that have stood the test of time.” Investing in Chanel pieces for resellers is not just a question of fashion, it’s a question of buying a valuable asset that appreciates with time.

Hermes

Without a doubt, Hermes Birkin bags are at the high end of item resale, because they keep their value extremely well. Despite not being widely available or particularly inexpensive, many retailers have found that vintage Birkins can sell for much more than they were at launch.

Then there’s exclusivity, according to Johnson. “Sometimes, the only place you can buy them is resale.”

The combination of rarity and desirability in Hermes means they are a reseller high roller favorite for making high profits.

Louis Vuitton

The good reputation of the Louis Vuitton fashion brand is due to its durability and luxury items. Often selling for over $1,000, Louis Vuitton’s classic monogram pieces are in high demand on the resale market. The brand’s commitment to craftsmanship means its products are desirable long after they have first been purchased.

“Items like the Neverfull tote retain their value because they are quality and iconic,’ Johnson said. In addition, limited edition collaborations tend to fetch even higher prices. “Louis Vuitton never goes on sale; it makes it more alluring,” she added.

This brand is an easy and reliable investment opportunity for resellers.

Van Cleef & Arpels

This luxury jewelry brand is known for its exquisite craftsmanship and timeless designs.

“Van Cleef & Arpels pieces tend to appreciate in value because their pieces are so rare and highly sought after by collectors,” Johnson said.

Items like the Alhambra necklace are not only beautiful, but they are also a good investment.

Van Cleef & Arpels’ materials and attention to detail means that their creations are desirable over time. It’s a smart choice for resellers looking to get high returns.

Cartier

Another brand whose value does not shrink is Cartier. An expectation of quality and luxury dictates its products are always in demand. Johnson explained that resellers buy iconic pieces such as the Love bracelet or Tank watch because they are classics.

With many reselling in excess of $1,000, it’s clear that the Cartier pieces are an investment. Cartier is a staple brand for savvy retailers looking to make an income on designer resale for the first time, and the brand offers both a profitable history and elegance.

Gucci

Gucci has seen a resurgence in popularity recently, making it a hot brand for resellers.

Johnson said, “Gucci has transformed from lagging in popularity to one of our best sellers over the past two years.”

She explained how the brand’s ability to reinvent itself keeps it relevant, noting how Gucci’s marketing strategies attract new customers while maintaining loyalty among existing ones.

Currently, Gucci is an exciting option for those looking to profit from designer fashion. Items such as the GG Marmont bag are very stylish yet also have a great resale value because of very high demand and low release.

Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta has gained traction in recent years, appealing to a new audience with its understated luxury aesthetic.

Johnson said, “Bottega Veneta is experiencing what I call a ‘moment,’ attracting new customers who appreciate its unique offerings.”

With distinctive designs and high-quality materials, Bottega Veneta items are becoming increasingly popular in the resale market.

“The brand’s focus on craftsmanship ensures that its products are not only stylish but also durable,” she added.

For resellers looking to capitalize on emerging trends, Bottega Veneta represents an excellent opportunity with significant growth potential.
