With a new year on the horizon, you might be in the market to purchase a brand new vehicle. There is nothing like a fresh start when it comes to hitting the road in the driver’s seat of a newly released model. However, cars are not perfect and even the latest models can break down, requiring maintenance that could be rather hard on your budget.
Looking to avoid having to pour a lot of money into car repairs, but still want a new set of wheels for the new year? Here are four new 2025 car models that will likely have the highest repair costs.
2025 Lincoln Navigator
Tomer Ruderman, founder and owner at Car Keys Ottawa, pointed out that the 2025 Lincoln Navigator can be expensive to repair because of its status as a luxury car.
“Repairs for luxury vehicles like the Navigator will usually require specialized mechanics familiar with the brand, with labor rates ranging from $120-$200 per hour,” Ruderman said.
It’s not just the repairs if something goes wrong that can be expensive — Ruderman said routine maintenance is also more expensive than you’d pay for a non-luxury SUV. “On average, you’re looking at about $1,000-$1,300 per year for things like oil changes and tire rotations.”
2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class
“The 2025 Mercedes-Benz G-Class has generated considerable buzz among automotive enthusiasts, not just for its luxurious features but also for its anticipated repair costs,” said Joyce Gutierrez, an automotive expert for 4WheelOnline, adding that potential buyers should be aware of vehicle performance and maintenance concerns.
“One notable issue is the delayed throttle response, which early test drivers have reported,” Gutierrez explained. “This lag can affect driving dynamics and overall satisfaction with the vehicle. Moreover, given the complexity of its engineering and high-end components, repair costs are expected to be significant if any issues arise.”
2025 Ram 1500
Gutierrez said this 2025 Ram model has faced some challenges, particularly safety concerns that could lead to hefty repair bills.
“This truck has garnered attention for its performance and some concerning reliability issues that may increase owners’ expenses,” she said. “One significant factor contributing to potential repair costs is a recall of damaged front wheel bearing encoder rings. These faulty components can adversely affect the vehicle’s stability control system, posing safety risks and necessitating costly repairs or replacements.”
Additionally, Gutierrez pointed out reports of faulty injectors in this model, which can lead to engine performance issues and further increase maintenance expenses.
2025 Jeep Wrangler
The 2025 Jeep Wrangler is another vehicle that Ruderman has found to be more expensive to fix and keep running smoothly on the road.
“Keeping a Wrangler in good shape can get pricey, and it mostly comes down to parts like the suspension that need more frequent upkeep,” Ruderman explained. “If you take it off-road a lot, the wear and tear can really add up, leading to repairs and replacements more often than with other compact SUVs.”
Ruderman said maintenance runs about $694 a year for a Wrangler, and there’s a decent chance drivers could face a big repair within the first decade of ownership.
