Ready to go electric? The market is booming with options that can handle everything, whether that’s to and from soccer practice or cross-country road trips. Do you need a budget-friendly ride, or are you looking for a luxury cruiser? Here’s what auto experts are recommending this year.

Best SUVs for Families

The standout in the SUV category is the 2026 Kia EV9, starting at $57,000. This is a big SUV, with three rows of seating. And it’s getting great reviews – Car and Driver gave it a perfect 10/10 rating and ranked it #2 in Best 3-Row SUVs under $65,000. Auto expert Chris Pyle from JustAnswer agrees, praising its family-friendly size and reasonable price point.

Do you need something a little smaller? The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 starts at $43,975 and gives you a lot of driving range (245-318 miles). Car and Driver ranks it No. 2 in Best SUVs Under $50,000, and it’s easy to see why: It looks great, it’s practical, and it’s reasonably priced.

The Budget-Friendly Choice

If price is your main concern, then the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E is probably going to be your best bet. Starting at $38,490, it gives you a solid driving range (250-280 miles), and it got a 9/10 rating from Car and Driver. They ranked it No. 3 in Best Electric SUVs under $45,000.

The Tried-and-True Option

Tesla has been in the business of making electric vehicles longer than most, and that experience shows. You’ll benefit from the years they’ve put into refining their vehicles. You also get to take advantage of the company’s vast charging network. As Pyle puts it, “They may not rank the highest compared to some others, but they have it figured out from being in the game the longest.” At $38,990, the Model 3 is their most affordable option.

The Trucks

If your family needs some serious utility, then the Ford F-150 Lightning should definitely be in the running.  At $49,875, it provides the functionality of America’s best-selling truck in an all-electric package. Pyle calls it “a good-priced truck with a decent range.”

Or do you want something more cutting edge? The 2025 Rivian R1S SUV starts at $77,700 and offers impressive range (258-410 miles). While Pyle notes repair costs can be high, it’s earned strong reviews and a loyal following.

The Luxury Choice

The 2025 BMW iX starts at $88,425 and gives you all the luxury experience you’d expect from the brand. Plus it has up to 324 miles of range and 610 horsepower. It’s at the top of Car and Driver’s list of Best Mid-Size Luxury Electric SUVs. If you’ve got the money to spend, then this is the one to get.
