Cars aren’t just conveniences that get us where we need to go. They can be the epitome of engineering and design — true marvels of human creativity. Some cars are the stuff of dreams, and hefty price tags to match. 

While most people still drive decidedly more realistic and affordable models, there’s no reason you can’t indulge in a daydream about putting your hands on the wheel of some of the most elite, expensive cars in the world.

Sotheby’s International Realty named the Rolls Royce Rose Noire Droptail as its most expensive car — and with a $32 million price tag, it’s not hard to see why. 

That $32 million — should you have it to spare — will get you a car inspired by the lush and velvety beauty of the Black Baccara rose. Each of the four models that were made took four years to create. The process involved some of the most complex design and bodywork the carmaker has ever performed. 

Though the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta comes with a steep $18 million price tag, it also comes with the elegance of sublime design and some pretty gnarly horsepower.

Sotheby’s copy called it, “more than a car. It is a manifestation of renaissance and science concepts that have always been integral to Pagani’s design philosophy.”

While James Bond’s signature car might be an Ashton Martin, the sleek design and W16 engine with six tailpipes of this Bugatti might tempt him.

Sotheby’s priced the car at $16 million while praising it as a blend of “speed, luxury, and automotive haute couture.”

According to Sotheby’s, there are only 10 of the beauties in the world, helping to drive their price tag up to $9 million. In its write up of this model, Sotheby’s maintained that it “stood proud as one of the most expensive cars in the world.” 

The company also cited the model’s W16 engine and its unique placement, as well as its “five diamond-shaped air intakes and a wedge-shaped profile, accentuated by a horse-shoe radiator grille below the headlamps.”

The pinnacle of bespoke: The tagline for Rolls Royce’s Coachbuild division, which creates one-of-a-kind models for the venerated manufacturer, speaks for itself. And it certainly encapsulates the philosophy behind the Rolls Royce Sweptail, which Top Speed magazine called “one of the most special British cars ever made.” 

That specialness also comes with a one-of-a-kind price: a whopping $13 million. 

Priced at nearly $2 million, the McLaren Senna GTR is such a powerful supercar that you can’t even drive it on average roads.

Capable of 813 horsepower propelled by its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine, it’s no wonder why this car is suited only for the racetrack.

For a relatively unknown brand to many car buyers, this California-based boutique automaker has come roaring onto the market with a 21C supercar that looks and feels like Batman could take it for a spin on a crime-fighting spree. Priced at $1.7 million, only his alter ego Bruce Wayne could afford it. As Motor1 wrote about this unique vehicle: “With 1,250 horsepower on tap thanks to a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, the 21C can rocket to 60 miles per hour in 1.9 seconds and a top speed of around 281 miles per hour.”
