As gas prices continue to fluctuate and more people seek to reduce the environmental impact of gas-powered cars, hybrid vehicles have continued to gain popularity. Hybrid vehicles enable owners to improve fuel economy and reduce carbon emissions, while avoiding many of the issues associated with electric cars.

If you’re thinking about purchasing a new hybrid car, here are four models you should consider, according to a recent report from Consumer Reports.

Toyota Corolla Hybrid

The Toyota Corolla Hybrid ranks at the top of the list for several reasons, including its estimated overall fuel economy of 48 MPG.

One of the noticeable upgrades when Toyota released the redesigned Corolla Hybrid in 2020 was its improved handling. It could respond to a driver’s steering movements more quickly, while preserving the same ride quality. Another nice upgrade arrived in 2023 with the introduction of an all-wheel-drive model. 

While there is much to love about the Corolla Hybrid, a notable drawback exists. The lower, curvy profile makes it more difficult for adults to get in and out of the backseat. However, with a base MSRP range of $22,325 to $28,190, it’s hard to get caught up on this issue.

Toyota RAV4 Hybrid

Toyota just released a redesigned RAV4 Hybrid for its 2026 model. While all-wheel drive is standard, it is also available in front-wheel drive for the first time. Fuel economy numbers for the 2026 model haven’t been released, but Toyota predicts an improvement over the 2025 model, which achieved an overall 37 MPG.

Toyota’s latest driver assist and safety features, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, will debut in the 2026 RAV4 hybrid model. Some of the features included are front and rear automatic emergency braking, intersection collision mitigation, rear and side cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. The base MSRP for the 2026 model is $28,850 to $40,205, making it an affordable option for anyone looking for a reliable hybrid SUV.

Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

Hyundai hasn’t updated their Elantra since the 2021 model year, but that isn’t keeping it from being on of the best hybrid car options in 2025. Not only does it offer a smoother ride than its non-hybrid counterpart, but it also gets an impressive 48 MPG overall. 

The standard model comes with a 147-hp four-cylinder engine along with a continuously variable transmission. This provides enough acceleration, while still maintaining its high fuel economy. However, if you want a little more under the hood, you can choose the Turbo N model with a 276-hp engine instead. 

The Elantra has a lower profile, which can make it a little uncomfortable to get in and out for someone on the taller side. Most people will overlook this issue given it’s low MSRP of $25,450 to $29,800.

Lexus NX Hybrid

If you’re looking for a more luxurious hybrid option, you’ll want to consider the Lexus NX Hybrid. With an overall 38 MPG, the fuel efficiency is slightly higher than the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. 

The Lexus NX Hybrid comes standard with safety features like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and blind spot warning. Plus, some previously optional features like power liftgate, Lexus intuitive parking assist and auto rain-sensing wipers, are now standard. 

The biggest downside for the NX Hybrid is the high price tag compared to other options on this list. The base MSRP range comes in at ​​$41,955 to $57,805.
