Finding an SUV with advanced safety features, up-to-date tech and a roomy interior at an affordable price point can be a tough challenge, but high leftover inventory on dealer lots is creating rare opportunities for U.S. buyers to snag a deal.
A recent study from iSeeCars shows a higher-than-average supply of leftover 2025 SUVs still sitting on dealer lots. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, here’s why these SUVs could be worth a second look, according to car experts.
Kia Niro: Efficient, Budget-Friendly and Still Sitting on Lots
- Average price: $31,914
- Amount of leftover inventory: 80.8%
There are many reasons to love the Kia Niro. At 53 mpg combined on select trims, it’s excellent for fuel-efficiency, a smooth ride and ample space inside. But it’s often overlooked because it’s not the biggest and boldest SUV, according to Rob Dillan, automotive expert and founder of EVhype.
“Consumers are currently gravitating toward larger vehicles; however, the Kia Niro is incredibly efficient and easy to park, and is one of the most hassle-free vehicles to drive daily, costing less than $35,000,” he explained.
Another reason for the slow sales is customer preference, said Alan Gelfand, owner of German Car Depot in Hollywood, Florida. “Shoppers remain uncertain about which variant to choose between its hybrid and electric models,” he said.
Priced under $32,000, the Kia Niro is a steal for budget-conscious shoppers looking for a reliable, cost-effective SUV.
Volkswagen Taos: An Underrated Compact SUV With Surprising Comfort

The Taos is in a very competitive spot and up against popular models like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek and Buick Encore GX, so it’s likely struggled to get visibility with shoppers. However, it may be much better than its inventory levels suggest.
“It is surprisingly comfortable for shorter drives and quite fuel-efficient,” Dillan said.
Gelfand agreed, explaining, “The Taos remains unnoticed by most consumers because it exists between compact and subcompact segments, yet it delivers a solid SUV package with excellent handling and premium interior materials at an affordable price.”
With the high level of 2025 models still on lots, dealers are likely more motivated to strike a deal.
Toyota 4Runner: Durable, Reliable and Currently Oversupplied

- Amount of leftover inventory: 79.0%
The Toyota 4Runner starts at a higher price point and has an outdated feel that’s causing consumers to look toward other models. “The 4Runner has a lot of excess inventory because it is vintage in an industry that is constantly chasing technological advancement,” Dillan said.
And he’s not the only expert to take note of the behind-the-times style.
“The remaining stock of 4Runner models most likely stems from its outdated platform design,” Gelfand said. However, he also pointed out that now is a good time to get a one because it’s a durable and reliable option designers created to withstand wear instead of losing value.
Subaru Outback: Road-Trip Ready and Easy To Find at a Good Price

The Subaru Outback is such a reliable model that many buyers hold on to it longer, meaning they don’t buy new cars every few years, according to Dillan.
“They are one of those SUVs that people end up keeping for a long time — they’re comfortable, safe, and built for road trips and bad weather,” he said.
But good news for people in the market for a new one: You should have little trouble finding a trim you love at a good price.
With inventory still high on these 2025 SUVs, now is a unique time for buyers to bargain down prices and drive home a new vehicle without paying a hefty price tag.
