With a new year comes new opportunities — financial, personal and otherwise. A new year also brings the chance for a new ride, with more and more new models hitting showroom floors.
That said, buying a new vehicle, such as a truck, can be a very expensive enterprise and a risky outlay of your finances. Something to factor into your budget calculations, especially in an age in which electric vehicle (EV) and hybrid technology are evolving at lightning speed, is mileage — just how far can your prospective new ride go? What is its fuel efficiency? How much will it cost you at the pump versus how long it will stay on the road?
GOBankingRates has compiled the findings from a number of car and truck organizations to find the five trucks with the best gas mileage in 2025. Keep reading if you’re looking for the best possible pickup in the new year.
2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz
- Combined Fuel Economy: Up to 25 miles per gallon (mpg)
- Starting MSRP: $28,500
While they may quibble on the details — True Car had it at No. 3 on their Trucks with Best Gas Mileage list, Car and Driver placed it as their No. 2 and Cars.com listed it at No. 1 — there’s no denying that the experts all love the 2025 Hyundai Santa Cruz.
Though it comes with limitations — True Car noted no hybrid model is available, and it has a small cargo bed — the Santa Cruz has a powerful turbocharged engine, a luxurious interior and, most important, it gets up to 25 mpg.
2025 Ram 1500
- Combined Fuel Economy: Up to 23 mpg
- Starting MSRP: $40,275
Car and Driver noted that the newest iteration of the Ram 1500 comes loaded with “enhanced tech, fresh styling and a twin-turbo inline-six,” all of which allows the Ram to “maintain its dominant position among full-size trucks.” It clocked in at No. 6 with True Car, No. 3 with Car and Driver and No. 2 with Cars.com.
Again, there may not be a consensus on the specifics of the truck, but experts can’t argue with the fact that it’s one of the most fuel-efficient trucks on the 2025 market.
2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- Combined Fuel Economy: Up to 21 mpg
- Starting MSRP: $37,000
It may be only No. 12 with the team at True Car, but the new Chevy Silverado 1500, with its varied powertrain options, strong tow power and high mileage rate ranks at No. 6 with Cars.com and No. 4 with the experts at Car and Driver.
Be advised, though: Per True Car, the Silverado suffers from some bumpy handling on the road and has low safety ratings.
2025 Honda Ridgeline
- Combined Fuel Economy: Up to 21 mpg
- Starting MSRP: $40,150
Sure, the Honda Ridgeline might suffer a bit when compared to its peers when it comes to off-roading — True Car reported it “lacks the rock-crawling ability of some four-wheel drive rivals” — but if you’re more concerned with how your truck does on the road rather than the side of a mountain, the Ridgeline can serve you just fine. True Car ranked it at No. 11, Car and Driver at No. 5 and Cars.com at No. 3.
2025 GMC Sierra 1500
- Combined Fuel Efficiency: Up to 24 mpg
- Starting MSRP: $38,300
While the Sierra has fantastic gas mileage, it comes with several drawbacks — True Car described it as a much “stiffer” ride than its many competitors, and also noted its full-size model comes with an “absurdly high” price. Even with those caveats, it still landed at No. 4 on True Car’s list, as well as Cars.com’s, whereas Car and Driver placed it more conservatively at No. 8.
