It’s not cheap to dine among the über wealthy. Those dining out at some of the most expensive restaurants in the United States should be prepared to spend hundreds, or thousands, of dollars per person on their meal.
To determine the nation’s costliest restaurants, GOBankingRates consulted various rankings aggregated online as well as cost breakdowns per person and locations of these establishments.
In alphabetical order, here are 10 of the most expensive U.S. restaurants.
Atelier Crenn | San Francisco
- $475 per person
For fine French cuisine, your best bet is Atelier Crenn in San Francisco. The cost per person to dine there is $475, inclusive of a 20% service charge.
The restaurant is so popular with patrons that SFGATE reported that reservations are made up to several months in advance. It’s even possible to buy someone else’s reservation off of a resale website.
Benu | San Francisco
- $390 per person
The prestigious Benu made headlines in 2014 as the first restaurant in San Francisco to receive three stars from The Michelin Guide. Partaking in the tasting menu costs $390 per person. An additional 22% service charge must also be paid.
Caviar Russe | New York
- $195 per person (three courses), $595 per person (six courses) and $975 per person (11 courses)
Guests dining at the luxurious New American restaurant Caviar Russe have their pick of various meals, and associated costs, to choose from. Those dining for a three-course meal can anticipate paying $195 each while the six-course Chef’s Choice Tasting starts at $595 per person. (According to the Caviar Russe website, Caviar Service is the first course.)
There is also the option to indulge in the 11-course Grand Tasting Menu. This costs $975 per person with a tour of Caviar Russe included.
Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare | New York
- $430 per person
Some may recall that the beloved Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare was briefly closed and reopened in October 2023 with two new head chefs. Those who wish to enjoy the tasting menu need to be prepared to shell out $430 each.
The French Laundry | Yountville, California
- $390 per person
Speaking about The French Laundry often means speaking about Per Se (which will appear later) in tandem. Both fine dining restaurants were opened by chef Thomas Keller and have been around for decades on their respective coasts.
The cost of a tasting menu at The French Laundry is $390 per person. It did once, however, cost slightly less. If you had patronized the establishment in 2004, The New York Times said you’d have paid $150, or $255 in today’s dollars, per person.
Masa | New York
- $750 per person (for Omakase) and $950 per person (for the Hinoki Counter Experience)
Described as one of the premier dining experiences in the world by Travel + Leisure, sushi restaurant Masa made headlines several years ago for its nearly $1k sushi bar.
Guests with reservations should be prepared to pay $950 for the Hinoki Counter Experience, according to Masa’s website. While this price does not include beverages or tax, your reservation does guarantee seating at the coveted sushi counter.
A slightly cheaper reservation alternative is the Omakase. This costs $750 per person, allowing guests to sit at a table in Masa’s dining room, and does not include beverages or tax.
Per Se | New York
- $390 per person
Per Se, a New American and French restaurant by chef Thomas Keller, offers guests with reservations the chance to enjoy one of two tasting menus daily. These include a nine-course chef’s tasting menu and a nine-course vegetable tasting menu.
Just be prepared when the check arrives. According to The New York Times, it costs $390 per person. That’s with service included but before the wine.
Restaurant Guy Savoy | Las Vegas
- $800 per person
Located inside the prestigious Caesars Palace Hotel, the cost of the exclusive Krug Chef’s Table 10-course dinner at Restaurant Guy Savoy is estimated to be around $800 per person by OpenTable. This cost does not include additional beverages, taxes or gratuity.
SingleThread | Healdsburg, California
- $425 to $500 per person
SingleThread, a farm, restaurant and inn in Healdsburg, has received three Michelin Stars and boasts a unique 10-course Kaiseki-style menu unlike what you may expect to find from a fine dining establishment in Wine Country.
At the time of writing this piece, OpenTable said a February Tasting Menu – Weekday Dinner costs $425 per person. If you’re partaking in the Weekend Dinner, that costs $500 each.
Sushi Noz | New York
- $550 per person (Omakase)
High-end sushi restaurant Sushi Noz not only raises eyebrows with its costs per person for Omakase ($550, according to OpenTable), but their unusual reservation requirement.
Guests need to pay a deposit along with their reservation. When booking a reservation, guests must provide a $100 per person deposit according to the Sushi Noz website.
