Egg prices are already sky-high, but they’re projected to climb even higher. According to the latest United States Department of Agriculture report, egg prices are expected to surge 57.6% this year due to the highly pathogenic avian influenza that is drastically reducing egg production.
While you’ll pay a steep price for eggs no matter where you shop, some supermarket chains are offering lower prices than others. Here’s a look at where you can find the cheapest eggs.
The Price of Eggs at Popular Supermarket Chains
As of March 17, the average cost for a dozen eggs was $5.60, according to FinanceBuzz. However, you can find eggs for less than that at three supermarket chains:
- HEB: $4.49 for a dozen eggs
- Kroger: $5.31 for a dozen eggs
- Giant Eagle: $5.49 for a dozen eggs
At these supermarket chains, you’ll pay above-average prices, with Publix being the most expensive:
- Target: $5.79 for a dozen eggs
- Meijer: $5.79 for a dozen eggs
- Walmart: $5.80 for a dozen eggs
- Aldi: $5.97 for a dozen eggs
- Publix: $6.16 for a dozen eggs
