Winter already? Wasn’t it just summer? And what happened to fall? No, you are not losing track of time — you are ahead of the game if your sights are set on shopping for winter goods.
There is one type of shopper who knows this better than anyone: Aldi superfans. That’s because at Aldi, you can get the best foods and household items at money-saving prices, perfect for storing up in the hot months and ready to use in the cold ones.
GOBankingRates spoke with Ashley Schuering, food blogger and freelance writer at Confessions of a Grocery Addict, who is one of those Aldi superfans. Here are her top eight Aldi buys for the coming winter season.

Holiday Mains
As winter approaches, so do the holidays, which is why buying your main dishes from Aldi right now will save you some money come gobble gobble time.
“With prices ranging from $29.99 for a whole frozen turkey, $1.27 a pound for fresh turkey, frozen spiral cut ham at 95 cents a pound and bone-in ribeye roasts for $6.99 a pound, Aldi’s meat section is tough to beat,” Schuering said.
Schuering also shared a fun fact. “Last year Aldi offered 50% off Thanksgiving staples from November 1 to New Year’s Eve. Not sure if they’ll do it again, but it was wildly successful last year.”
Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes
To go with those main dishes, you’ll need some sides and nothing is better than having some potatoes and sweet potatoes from Aldi ready to go on your dinner table.
“For just $4.99, you can get a whopping 10 pounds of russet (baking) potatoes — enough to feed a small army,” Schuering said.
“They’re perfect for mashing, slicing into impressive-looking hasselback potatoes or baking whole and stuffing with chili, roasted broccoli and cheese or whatever else your heart desires to make a full-on meal,” Schuering explained. “You can also score three pounds of fresh sweet potatoes for just $2.49, so your pies and casseroles will be cheap.”
Condensed Soup
Winter time is definitely soup time. Stock up now at Aldi now so you can sip soundly when old man winter comes knockin’ later on this year.
“This pantry staple is a shortcut for many casseroles and cozy winter favorites,” Schuering said. “Rather than spending $1 to $2 [or more] per can at other major grocery chains, stock up for just 68 cents at Aldi. They have Cream of Mushroom and Cream of Chicken under their store brand, plus carry Campbell’s Tomato Soup for $1.29.”
Premium Vanilla Ice Cream
This might seem counter-intuitive — ice cream is already cold, so why would you want it during the winter? That’s right, to make all your sweet treats a la mode.
“Whether you’re serving pies, crisps or cobblers for dessert, they’re all better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream,” Schuering said. “For $5.98 you’ll get 38 ounces of premium vanilla (made with just five ingredients), versus Haagen-Dazs charging just 40 cents less for 14 ounces at the Kroger across the street.”
Heavy Whipping Cream
“Winter is the time for rich foods and cream is a staple in many of my favorites,” Schuering said.
“Get a quart of heavy whipping cream for $5.39 at Aldi versus $3.99 for a pint (half as much) of Land O’ Lakes at Kroger. Perfect for your morning coffee, whipping into chantilly (because fresh is so much better than the canned stuff), making chowder and more,” she explained.
Advent Calendars
These calendars drop on November 6 of this year and according to Schuering, whether you’re shopping for a coffee addict, beer drinker, wine aficionado, chocolate lover, cheese freak, self-care guru, pro puzzler or toy-obsessed kiddos, Aldi’s huge range of fun advent calendars are all winners.
“With prices ranging from a modest $1.49 to a slightly splurgy $69.99 (not bad for 24 splits of wine with no repeats), there’s something for everyone. Just make sure to get there quick — these always sell out in a flash,” she said.
Baking Essentials
If you are stuck inside because of all the bad weather, why not get to baking? Getting all your supplies now will save you not only money, but a trip to the store on treacherous roads.
“Pure vanilla extract and almond extract are a steal at just $1.79 for a 2-ounce bottle. Sub $1 cans of evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk and 99 cents cake and brownie mixes are also very competitively priced,” Schuering explained.
Entertaining Essentials
Having a party? Make sure to put Aldi on your list as the place to go to load up on all your entertaining supplies.
“These $9.99 Highball Glasses are extremely affordable knockoffs of Crate & Barrel’s, which retail for $6.95 each,” Schuering said. “This gorgeous wooden serving tray and serving bowl are similar steals at $14.99 each.”
