Shopping at the dollar store ensures that you can get some cheap deals and while Dollar General and Dollar Tree both fit that profile, just how far does $50 go at each one? GOBankingRates compared the same or similar products between the two stores to find out.

Although these Bluetooth party speakers aren’t exactly the same, they are similar. But shoppers will pay $1.35 more for the Dollar General option versus the Dollar Tree version. 

Stemless Wine Glasses

  • Dollar Tree Price: $1.50 each

Dollar Tree has various sizes and styles of stemless wine glasses for $1.50 each. Dollar General also sells stemless wine glasses in two-packs for $6, which equals $3 per glass. 

Stainless Steel Tumbler 

  • Dollar General Price: $8
  • Dollar Tree Price: $7

Shoppers will spend $1 more at Dollar General for a 20-ounce stainless steel tumbler than they will at Dollar Tree. Plus, Dollar Tree offers three color choices instead of just two like Dollar General offers. 

Energizer Max AA Batteries

Both Dollar General and Dollar Tree sell the same four-pack of Energizer Max AA batteries. However, Dollar General’s price is 50 cents higher.

Although the outdoor chair cushions at Dollar General might be a little better quality than what Dollar Tree offers, you’ll pay almost twice as much.

Dollar General beat Dollar Tree’s price on this item by 25 cents because it’s part of Dollar General’s Dollar Deals. 

Dollars Stretch Further at Dollar Tree

The $50 limit ran out more quickly at Dollar General than Dollar Tree. The grand total at Dollar General was $42.60. For the same or similar items, the grand total was $33 at Dollar Tree. That means shoppers could spend almost $10 more at Dollar Tree than Dollar General. 

Although that could change depending on the products purchased, chances are you’ll spend less overall at Dollar Tree. Eight out of the nine items compared were cheaper at Dollar Tree than Dollar General.
