For most Americans, the summer holiday ends when school begins and the Labor Day weekend is over. That’s not necessarily the case for retirees, however. Many take advantage of empty tourist spots and cheap prices in September to get in one last trip before the official end of summer, which takes place on Sept. 22 this year.
September is also a good month to purchase items that can help you close out summer and prepare for the fall — and a good destination for that is Home Depot. The world’s largest home-improvement chain offers thousands of indoor, outdoor and seasonal items at its 2,300-plus stores across North America.
Here’s a look at five Home Depot items that retirees might need to buy before summer officially ends.
Sterilite 64-quart Latching Storage Box
- Price: $12.98 (down from $15.98)
If you need to pack away summer items, this durable storage bin can do the job. Latches attach the lid to the base, making it easier to grip and carry. The see-through base lets you quickly view the contents inside, and the recessed lid allows for secure stacking.
CitruSafe 23-ounce BBQ and Grill Cleaner
- Price: $9.98
Another end-of-summer duty is cleaning the outdoor grill — especially if you’ll be packing it up until the spring. CitruSafe is a safe and powerful option that is easy to spray and suitable for all grill types.
Walensee 39-inch Weed Puller
- Price: $30.65
This tool is ideal for retirees who want to get rid of the last of the summer weeds. You can remove weeds without having to bend over or go down on your knees. In addition, the foot pedal lets you put enough force on the weed remover to penetrate the ground and grab the whole weed, including the roots.
Homlite Cordless Battery Leaf Blower
- Price: $79
Even if you hire someone to clear the fall leaves from your yard, you might want to keep the patio, porch and walkways cleared more often. This lightweight cordless blower is easy to use and features a rechargeable 12-volt 2.5Ah battery, which means it’s quieter and more eco-friendly than gas-powered blowers. It has a power capacity of up to 90 miles per hour and 160 cubic feet per minute.
Nearly Natural Artificial Harvest Wreath
- Price: $68.98 (down from $79.98)
Many retirees like to dress the house up for fall, and harvest wreaths are a popular option. This one comes in the usual autumn colors, which encircle a foundation of harvest pumpkins, gourds and berry sprigs. It measures 28 inches in diameter and is suitable for an entryway, door or mantel.
