When Swedish furniture giant IKEA first introduced its IKEA Family rewards program, it offered 5% off purchases to members of the loyalty program. The retailer discontinued that aspect of the program in February 2024 — after less than two years. As of May 14, the furniture store has once again revamped its loyalty program.
Some benefits, like free coffee or tea for members, remain. But others shift to a points-based system. In all, it seems that members can save more money and cash in points for the benefits they want with the new program.
New members can get $20 off their in-store purchase, too, to kick off the savings. For a free program, that’s a generous incentive.
Let’s explore the components of the new IKEA system, how to earn points, and how much you can save.
Earn $10 for Every $100 Spent
Now through May 26, IKEA Loyalty members earn $10 for every $100 purchased. The coupon is good from June 3, 2025, to August 31, 2025. This is similar to Kohl’s Cash, in that you have to spend money to earn money you can redeem for future purchases. While Kohl’s typically offers $10 for every $50 in purchases, IKEA’s program essentially delivers 10% cash back to use on future IKEA purchases.
Restaurant Deals
IKEA Family members can still get free coffee or tea on every visit. On Tuesdays through May 26, IKEA Family members can save 50% off adult entrees. On Wednesdays through May 26, bring the family, since you’ll get two free kids’ entrees for every adult entrée purchased. This recognizes that a parent often shops alone with multiple children.
How To Earn Points
IKEA Family members can earn points in the following ways:
- Make a purchase in an IKEA store, online, or through the app: 1 point for every $1 spent
- Create an IKEA Family profile (one time): 50 pts.
- Log in to your account via the website or IKEA app (once a week): 25 pts.
- Create and save a product to a wish list (once a week): 25 pts.
- Create and save a kitchen or sofa drawing (once a week): 25 pts.
- Register and attend an IKEA Family event: 50 pts.
- Register and attend an in-store or virtual consultation (once a week): 50 pts.
- Create a gift registry (one time only): 50 pts.
- Share your registry (once a week): 10 pts.
What Your Points Earn
As you accrue points, you can cash them in for things like a frozen treat (60 points), $10 off delivery (350 points), cash off IKEA or Restaurant purchases, or $50 off delivery or assembly. Rewards expire after 30 days, a strategy designed to keep IKEA customers coming back multiple times per month.
Members Still Get These Perks
In addition to earning rewards through the new points system, IKEA Family members still enjoy 90-day price protection, access to the Buy Back & Resell program, where they earn store credit for pre-loved IKEA pieces, and access to member-only offers.
Final Take
If you know you’ll be making an IKEA purchase, you can spend a month accruing points and earn 650 points or more by completing the activities. With those points, you can save on delivery, the purchase or both. It might help to check into the app weekly to keep tabs on points that are expiring and complete the activities to earn more points.
If you have an IKEA close to you, it might pay to visit and enjoy a dinner in the restaurant – but only if you were planning to dine out anyway. Apps that offer free rewards are designed to entice you to spend money. Make sure these are purchases you would make if you didn’t have a coupon and they fit within your family budget.
