There’s a lot of reason to be excited for Amazon Prime Day 2025, which is actually three days where you can get some extra stellar deals and discounts on tons of products available from the giant online retailer. If you have marked your calendar for July 8 through July 11 as a reason to celebrate savings, make sure you also check your finances, especially if you are middle class, because there are definitely a few things you may not want to purchase on Amazon during that time.

Here are four items the middle class should avoid buying on Amazon Prime Day 2025.

Off-Brand Items

You might think that buying off-brand items during Prime Day will give you an extra boost of savings, but Melissa Cid, consumer savings expert for MySavings.com, cautioned Amazon shoppers to think again.

“Don’t get sucked into buying off-brand electronics, beauty products or apparel just because they’re marked down for Prime Day,” Cid said. “Many of these items were marked up weeks in advance just to be ‘marked down’ during the sale, creating the illusion of a deal.”

As a pro shopping tip, Cid shared that if the brand is unfamiliar and the reviews seem suspiciously positive or vague, it’s likely not worth your money, no matter how good the discount looks.

Small Kitchen Appliances

You probably are eager to fill your kitchen with the best gadgets and gear to make your favorite foods for the summer, as well as the rest of the year. By all means, put them on your wish list and then wait a bit to purchase.

“If you can wait a few months, hold off on buying small kitchen appliances like air fryers and instant pots during Prime Day,” Cid explained, noting that these items are almost always priced significantly lower around Black Friday, when retailers compete more aggressively.

“What looks like a good deal now might be 30% to 40% cheaper come November,” Cid added.

Unfamiliar Fashion Brands

“You’ll see dresses and leggings marked down 70% off, but their original prices are likely inflated to make it seem like a great deal but lack quality,” Cid said.

Cid highlighted that while these fashion brands may look just like Lululemon or Athleta, “the material often pills, stretches out or becomes see-through after a few washes, essentially making those $15 leggings a total waste of money.”

Generic Serums

If you happen to come across a generic vitamin C serum or another product that is similar from a brand that you are unfamiliar with, Cid urged that shoppers not buy them, even if it’s at a great price like $20 or under.

“They will have enormous amounts of overwhelmingly positive reviews, which often is because the brand is incentivizing them. Ingredients in these unknown brands are often ineffective and unregulated,” Cid said.
