As a retired boomer, you’re probably always finding new projects around the house to stay busy. From switching out light bulbs and upgrading your faucets to adding new plants to the garden, your to-do list is never-ending.
Those projects usually require supplies, which is why you might be a regular at Lowe’s. It’s a great place to save money on items for your home without compromising on quality.
To learn more about some of the more popular items to buy from Lowe’s, GOBankingRates talked to Joe Patrick, a retiree from Nebraska. Here are five things he always buys from Lowe’s.
Lawn and Garden Tools
Finding the right tools for outdoor upkeep makes all the difference. After all, the right tool can turn a three-hour project into one hour.
“I always shop at Lowe’s for my lawn and garden tools,” Patrick said. “Not only do they have an expansive selection to choose from, but they are also affordable.”
Take their Craftsman brand, for example. Their Lawn & Garden Essential Tool Set contains everything you need, from rakes and shovels to brooms, for $101.92.
Valspar Paint
With dozens of paint brands on the market, it can be difficult to choose the right one for your project. This isn’t the case when you head to Lowe’s and shop their Valspar brand.
“Valspar is a premium paint brand with an affordable price tag,” Patrick explained. “You can pick up a gallon of paint for under $50. Even better, Lowe’s is always offering bulk order discounts, helping you tackle those large projects without breaking your budget.”
Plants
When picking out the latest lawn and garden tools, make sure you stop by the plant department, especially in early spring. Lowe’s always has premium plants and flowers to choose from.
“From seeds and bulbs to annuals and perennials, Lowe’s is my go-to for sprucing my lawn and garden,” Patrick said. “For under $10, you can find a variety of colorful plants and flowers.”
Stainmaster Flooring
“Now that I’m retired, I wanted something to keep myself busy, so I purchased a vacation home for our family,” Patrick said. “Its flooring was in really bad condition, so my son and I are slowly replacing it. Unfortunately, flooring can quickly become expensive. Luckily, the Stainmaster brand at Lowe’s has been a great option.”
Stainmaster has a fleet of different flooring options, such as vinyl, laminate, carpet and tile, many of which come with pet protection. One of Patrick’s favorite options has been the Glacier Calacatta Marble Vinyl Tile, which is $2.79 per square foot. If you want to save money on flooring and protect against pets, children and spills, check out the Stainmaster brand at Lowe’s.
Project Source Faucets
“Any time I need to replace a kitchen or bathroom faucet, I head to Lowe’s,” Patrick said.
Lowe’s has a variety of Project Source faucets to choose from, all at affordable prices. From stainless steel and gold to black and chrome, there are always options that match your décor. The Larton Bathroom Sik Faucet retails for $49, while the Flynt Kitchen Faucet is around $99. To get these prices even lower, you can stack member discounts.
