How Much It Costs To Take the World’s Longest Cruises

Have you ever wanted to travel the world but don’t know where to start? Now that the pandemic is ebbing thanks to vaccines and countries are opening up, your chance to set sail is on the horizon. Cruise ships have you covered, and in a very big way.

If you’ve got the time and the money, there are 10 cruise lines offering lengthy trips that can take you, if not around the entire world, to pretty significant parts of it in comfort and style, and with a bevy of stops and sights. For the longest cruises, you just have to be willing to spend up to eight months on a ship, and have the funds to pay for it, as they don’t come cheap. Here’s how much it costs on the top 10 cruise lines offering trips of a lifetime, according to Cruise Critic, to some of the most sought-after countries in the world.

Leaving right after the New Year, on Jan. 3, 2022, P&O’s Aurora sets sail for a 99-night trip out of Southampton, New York. You’ll visit 22 countries, with stops in Tenerife, several Caribbean islands, Mexico and San Francisco. From there, you’ll foray to Hawaii and the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. You’ll also get a few stops in Asia, the Middle East and the Mediterranean before returning to Southampton on April 13, 2022. For this luxurious trip, your fare will start at about $14,500 per person.

The Princess Cruise Line offers two world cruises in 2022. The first cruise starts on May 14, 2022, for a round-trip tour beginning in Auckland, New Zealand. You can also get picked up on May 14 from Sydney, or May 18 from Brisbane, Australia. You’ll ride the Coral Princess to the Komodo Islands, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Greece and the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal, then head north toward Ireland, Northern Europe and the north cape of Norway. But that’s not all! You’ll also see Iceland, Halifax, New York and Miami, then head back to Australia and New Zealand, passing through Peru, Chile and French Polynesia. Full fares start at $14,719 per person.

This second Princess World Cruise departs from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Sydney. You’ll ride the Island Princess for a 111-night cruise, leaving Jan. 5, 2022. You can also board the boat in Los Angeles on Jan. 19. This route is what Cruise Critic calls “the most destination-intensive world cruise itinerary the line has offered to date.” You’ll hit 50 ports of call and stop in 32 countries across six continents, where you’ll have access to 25 UNESCO sites, such as Petra, Ephesus and the Great Barrier Reef. Stops will include Nicaragua and Mexico, Hawaii, French Polynesia, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and Singapore, as well as Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka. But that’s not all! The ship then heads to the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Jordan, Egypt and Israel. It will also include the Adriatic and the Mediterranean, Morocco, the Canary Islands, Bermuda and back to Fort Lauderdale by April 27. All of this can be yours to see starting at $17,669 per person. Segments start at $1,149 per person.

You’ll start this 116-night journey in Italy, at Rome’s port, Civitavecchia, on Jan. 4, 2022. Sailing on the MSC Poesia, you’ll hit ports in South America, Europe, Australia and Asia before arriving back in Civitavecchia. You can also choose just a certain segment of the trip, picking up at ports in either Genoa, Italy; Marseille, France; or Barcelona, Spain. Fares for this treat of a trip start at $15,549 per person.

Give yourself a Christmas present with this Viking World Cruise, which departs Dec. 22, 2022. You’ll ride the Viking Neptune over 119 nights. From Los Angeles, you’ll visit Hawaii, the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia as well as Southeast Asia, India and the Middle East. You’ll pass through the Suez Canal on your way to many Mediterranean stops, then up the coast of Europe and disembark on May 23 in London. Fares for the 2023 world cruise begin at a whopping $49,995 per person.

This Regent World Cruise sails round trip from San Francisco. Aboard the Seven Seas Mariner, you’ll tour the Pacific Rim, hitting 59 ports in 17 countries, seeing the South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Cruisers will have access to more than 40 UNESCO World Heritage sites, as well as nearly 300 daily excursions. You will overnight in such cities as Honolulu, Sydney, Bangkok, Shanghai and Vancouver. You’ll return to San Francisco on May 5, 2022. The fare for this cruise is one of the pricier ones, beginning at $66,499 per person.

Hop on board Holland America’s 128-night Grand World Voyage in January 2022. Leaving from Fort Lauderdale aboard the Zaandam, you head to South America and layover in Brazil (with a jaunt down the Amazon River), then head into the Panama Canal. You’ll make stops in Hawaii and the South Pacific, Asia (namely Japan and China), followed by the Middle East and the Mediterranean. You’ll return to port in Fort Lauderdale on May 12, 2022. Your fare will start at $22,499 per person.

Seabourn’s World Cruise, from Los Angeles to Athens, Greece, begins Jan. 11, 2022. You’ll be aboard the Seabourn Sojourn for 145 days.

Right out of the gate, you’ll head to Hawaii, hit the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. Then you’ll come back north to China, Japan and Southeast Asia. From there, it’s west to Sri Lanka, India and the Middle East. Finally, you’ll explore Israel, Greece, Turkey and other Mediterranean destinations before returning to Athens. You’ll have to save your pennies for this trip: full fares start at $66,999 per person. Segments start at $12,999 per person.

Oceania is offering an “Around the World in 180 Days” cruise beginning Jan. 6, 2022. This 180-day trip departs from Los Angeles, though you can extend your trip to 196 days by getting onboard in Miami on Dec. 21, 2021.

Your cruise will include stops to Grand Cayman and Cartagena, Colombia; Costa Rica; Nicaragua; Guatemala and a few ports in Mexico. You’ll return to Los Angeles before heading out to the Hawaiian Islands, the South Pacific and Australia. You’ll hit a number of Asian ports, from Indonesia to India. Then your last leg will include the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Iceland, Greenland, Canada and New England before you end in New York on July 4. Fares begin at $39,799, but you can pay as little as $5,399 per person for some of the smaller segments.

Start the new year off right with a Crystal cruise for the better part of a year, at 288 nights. You start out in Miami or Los Angeles. Leaving on Jan. 17, 2022, you’ll visit the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Mexico, Hawaii, the South Pacific, New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, India, Oman, Egypt and Jordan, then cross the Suez Canal on your way to Israel, Greece, Turkey and the Mediterranean. There are also stops in the Azores and Bermuda. As for the cost, you can get this life-changing experience starting at $53,646 for the full world journey or $41,571 for certain segments.
