Trader Joe’s has no shortage of popular, organic goods for sale, but where Aldi excels is its affordability. Nearly everything at Aldi is cheaper than what you’d find at other major grocery stores, including Trader Joe’s — though you can find some great deals there, too.

Of course, the exact savings opportunities at both grocery stores are dependent on what’s available in your local store and what’s currently on sale. Deals can also vary by the week, so you might miss out on a great deal one week but find something even better the next.

GOBankingRates compared these two stores to determine where the most savings opportunities lie. Here are the top items at Trader Joe’s that are currently cheaper than what you’d get at Aldi.

Frozen Fruity Ice Bars

Price: $3.29

Frozen ice cream is a touch cheaper at Trader Joe’s than it is at Aldi. For example, you can get a box of six strawberry lemonade ice bars at Trader Joe’s for nearly $1.50 less than a similar item at Aldi.

Flatbread

Price: $3.49

You can get flatbread at both locations, but you’re probably going to find a better deal at Trader Joe’s. You’d have to spend around $4.55 for Aldi’s specially selected organic naan bread — that’s over $1 more than the Trader Joe’s option. While there are cheaper options available at Aldi, you’re still likely to find some room for savings by shopping at Trader Joe’s.

Hummus

Price: $2.29

A container of hummus — specifically garlic hummus — will cost you just over $2 at Trader Joe’s. A similar option at Aldi costs nearly $0.50 more.

In this case, the garlic hummus from Trader Joe’s does come in a slightly smaller container — 2 ounces less, to be precise. That’s about $0.29 cents per ounce at Trader Joe’s vs. $0.25 per ounce at Aldi. Even so, if you’re strictly looking to save money and would have gone with the smaller option anyway, Trader Joe’s is the way to go.

Mini Chocolate Ice Cream Cones

Price: $3.99

Both Trader Joe’s and Aldi have a decent assortment of desserts. But not only are you likely to find some unique desserts at Trader Joe’s, you also could end up saving money by shopping there.

One such savings possibility is Trader Joe’s miniature chocolate ice cream cones, which come in at just under $4. The box contains three cones, meaning you’re spending $1.33 per cone. At Aldi, you can get a similar dessert for $5.29.

As with the garlic hummus, what it comes down to is what you’re actually looking for. If you want a lower sticker price, Trader Joe’s has Aldi beat. But if you want something that technically costs less per unit, Aldi’s has the upper hand — though not by much.

Crumbled Feta Cheese

Price: $2.99

At Trader Joe’s, you can get 6 ounces of crumbled feta cheese for just under $3. This is a better overall value than what you’d get at Aldi. In this case, the savings really do come down to the ounce — as well as the item’s overall price.

Today's Top Offers

Aldi’s crumbled feta cheese comes in a 4-ounce container and costs $2.09. That’s about $0.52 per ounce. Given that Trader Joe’s is selling pretty much the same thing for $0.50 an ounce, there’s a clear — if minute — winner.

Trail Mix Bars

Price: $0.99

The Rainbow’s End Trail Mix Bars at Trader Joe’s beat Aldi’s Millville Fruit and Nut Trail Mix Chewy Granola Bars by about a dollar. Why? Because for under $1, you can get five bars at Trader Joe’s — roughly $0.20 each. At Aldi, you get six bars, but they cost $2.15. That’s around $0.36 each. The savings may be small, but they can quickly add up when you’re filling your shopping cart or trying to feed the whole family — or even just yourself.
