Shoppers know they can get great deals at Five Below and Walmart on everything from snacks to home essentials. What they may not realize is that they can save more money by buying specific items at one retailer over the other.
To find out which items at Five Below cost way more at Walmart, GOBankingRates carefully price-matched a small selection of items sold at both stores. In alphabetical order by name brand, these seven items are much cheaper at Five Below than they are at Walmart.
Bioswiss Bandages
- Price: $1
The next time you see Bioswiss bandages for sale at Five Below, buy a box or two. The $1 price tag for each 24-count box of bandages is unbelievably cheap and can’t be beat.Â
Walmart also carries the Bioswiss bandage brand, but their prices are much more expensive. A 24-count box of the unicorn bandages retails at $7.99 each. By shopping at Five Below, you’re able to save as much as $7 on your purchase.
CoverGirl Professional Remarkable Mascara
- Price: $5
Need a new mascara? Pick up a CoverGirl Professional Remarkable mascara during your next Five Below shopping run.Â
Walmart carries the same mascara brand and prices theirs at $5.98. That’s nearly a dollar difference in savings.
Gain Aromaboost Liquid Laundry Detergent
- Price: $2
For light loads of laundry, it’s Gain liquid laundry detergent to the rescue. GOBankingRates compared the 10 fluid ounce sized bottles of Gain laundry detergent sold at Five Below and Walmart and discovered Five Below has the cheapest pricing by far.Â
Their $2 bottles compared to Walmart’s $7.09 pricing for the same detergent brand. You could buy three bottles of Gain at Five Below and have change leftover for the cost of one bottle sold at Walmart.
Glad 13-Gallon Tall Kitchen Trash Bags
- Price: $5
One of the toughest parts of comparing the cost of Glad 13-gallon tall kitchen trash bags sold at Five Below versus Walmart was that the ones sold at Walmart kept showing up as sold out.Â
The speed in which these trash bags sell out aside, they also cost $8.51 on average at Walmart. That’s $3.51 more than what you’d pay at Five Below for the same 22-count package.
Play-Doh Party Pack
- Price: $5
If you’re shopping for a Play-Doh party pack to buy as a present, it’s tough to find an affordably priced 10-count set for sale at Walmart.Â
One of the least expensive options we were able to find priced 10 Play-Doh cans for $11.28. For this amount, Five Below shoppers could buy two of the Play-Doh party packs and get 20 cans of Play-Doh for $10.
Scotch Magic Tape
- Price: $1.25
A single dispenser of Scotch Magic tape sold at Five Below costs $1.25 each. And if you think this could be cheaper at Walmart, shoppers are in for a surprise. The same tape brand costs $3.34 per dispenser there.
Sour Patch Kids
- Price: $3.50
Both Five Below and Walmart have a wide selection of candy for sale, but it’s cheaper to shop for Sour Patch Kids in 12-ounce bags at Five Below.Â
Walmart gets pretty close to beating out Five Below’s pricing, but ultimately falls short at $4.18 per candy bag.
