It’s officially back-to-school shopping season, and retailers are rolling out discounts on supplies, clothing and more. But not every deal is worth grabbing right now — some items will be significantly cheaper if you wait.
Here are three things you should skip during back-to-school sales if you’re aiming for the best prices.
Fall Clothing
Even if you spot early markdowns on fall fashion, deeper discounts are coming.
“It’s tempting to grab fall fashion now, but the better deals tend to arrive later in the season,” said Stephanie Carls, retail insights expert at RetailMeNot. “If you can wait, you’ll see deeper discounts when retailers start clearing space for winter collections.”
Mattresses
If you’re moving or upgrading your space, a new mattress might be on your list — but hold off just a little longer.
“Labor Day sales typically offer some of the best prices of the year,” Carls said.
Electronics
While laptops are often discounted for students right now, other tech items are best saved for later.
“The biggest discounts on tech — especially TVs, tablets and headphones — tend to drop around Black Friday or Cyber Monday,” Carls said. “If it’s not a need-now item, it may be worth holding off.”
