When you shop at Dollar Tree, you know you are getting some of the best everyday products you need for your home, office, vehicle, and more, all at prices that are nearly too good to be true.

Unfortunately, for some items on Dollar Tree shelves, they are not worth purchasing, even for the low cost offered. As times and money are tight this fall season, you need to be a savvy shopper and make sure each dollar counts.

GOBankingRates has done a round up of four items to avoid at Dollar Tree this October:

Autumn Themed Ceramic Mug

  • Price: $1.50 each

Are you ready to sip your favorite fall drink outside or by a roaring fire? Make sure you don’t do it out of the Royal Norfolk Fall theme Ceramic Mug that’s available at Dollar Tree for less than $2. The price is cheap, but as one customer mentioned in a bad review of the mug, the quality is so bad that it “chips [everywhere,] cheap.”

Knitted Decorative Pumpkins

  • Price: $6 each

The season would not be complete without some addition of pumpkins to the decor, but the Stacked Knitted Decorative Pumpkins from Dollar Tree cannot do the job. Not only are each stack of pumpkins $6 a piece, they have been labeled in one-star reviews as “garbage” and a brand not to buy.

Harvest Candle Lanterns

  • Price: $7 each

As the sun starts to set earlier and you want to create a cozy feeling around your home, candle lanterns could be your go to option, even if they are LEDs as opposed to traditional wax burning ones. Just be sure that you do not shop for the Harvest Light-Up LED Candle Lanterns at Dollar Tree.

While they might be $7 a piece, one unhappy customer reported, “BEWARE!!! When adjusting the top of the lantern to close, the glass panels inside easily can break. I almost impaled my hand and fingers.”

Outdoor Fall Signs

  • Price: $7 each

October is the month to kick off the holiday season, so you might want to spruce up your house with something autumn themed from Dollar Tree. The Harvest Theme Leaner Sign is not it, even if it costs $7.

A one-star customer review reads: “[Not] an outdoor decor. If any water or rain touches it instantly gets ruined…. I even bought another and tried [clear-protecting] it and it lasted [four] days.”

Editor’s note: Prices are accurate as of Oct. 24, 2025. Prices and availability may vary by location.
