Some companies are far more popular than others among job seekers in America’s biggest cities. To help candidates find the best opportunities in their regions, GOBankingRates took a closer look at the most popular online job searches by city.

Company search data for this article was provided by jobs website ZipRecruiter on Aug. 1, 2017. GOBankingRates defines “most popular” as the most searched private company on ZipRecruiter in the 50 most populous cities in the U.S., according to a July 1, 2016, U.S. Census Bureau estimate. Cities are ranked from least to most populous.

Founded in 1959 as a hair care and hair appliance company, Conair is now a global leader in the personal care industry. Although Conair does not have offices in Anaheim, it remains one of the city’s most popular job searches. In 2016, Forbes listed Conair, which employs 3,571 people, as No. 213 on its list of the world’s largest privately held companies.

Of the 58,846 jobs Koch Industries provides in the United States, 3,713 of them are in Kansas. That’s because Wichita is home to the headquarters of Koch Industries, which employs 120,000 people in 60 countries worldwide and holds the title of the country’s second-largest privately held company, according to Forbes.

The company is a massive enterprise that is involved in a wide range of industries, including energy, cattle and medical technology. Interestingly, the Koch brothers are the richest entrepreneurs from this state.

In 2016, the New Orleans Advocate was Louisiana’s third-largest newspaper. You’re probably wondering, are newspapers still making money? Yes, some are. In fact, the Advocate has recently increased its circulation.

The paper is currently advertising several open positions, including a digital sales specialist and news page designer. The paper’s website lists contact information for 150 employees, making it a great place to find jobs online.

SAS is the largest independent vendor in the business analytics software and services industry, and it’s larger than all but 138 private companies in America. The company, which according to Forbes employs 14,078 people, also occupies the No. 21 spot on the Forbes list of America’s Best Employers. In 2018, SAS will open a massive training center on Wilson Boulevard in Arlington.

Just 32 privately held companies in America are larger than QuikTrip, which according to Fortune, employs 22,534 people.

The convenience store chain maintains more than 700 locations across the South and Midwest and is headquartered in Tulsa. If interest in the company is high, that’s probably because Fortune named it No. 68 on its list of best companies to work for in the U.S.

If you’re wondering where to look for jobs in Minnesota, you might want to check out Cargill, the largest privately held company in the United States.

The agriculture company, which employs 150,000 people according to Forbes, is headquartered in Minneapolis, but that’s not the only reason job hunters want more information. Cargill, which has existed since the end of the Civil War, has a spot on two Forbes lists: America’s Best Employers and Canada’s Best Employers.

Deloitte, which provides tax and financial consulting services to businesses in more than 150 countries, was founded in 1895 and employs 78,642 workers in the United States, according to Fortune. It’s the fourth-largest private company in the country.

Deloitte has a lot to offer job seekers. Fortune says the company was seeking to hire nearly 4,900 new employees as of February 2017. It secured a spot on Forbes’ America’s Best Employers list, as well as the Canada’s Best Employers list.

One of the three locations maintained by Manifold is in San Francisco, where the company was founded in 2010, right across the river from Oakland. The marketing firm was named Small Agency of the Year by Ad Age in 2012. Although the company isn’t currently advertising any openings, its website welcomes job seekers to submit resumes in case anything opens up.

Cargill is currently accepting applications for professional positions, hourly production jobs and new graduate and early career jobs.

The $120 billion food, drink and tobacco company is only advertising one job right now in Omaha, but there are more than 60 openings across the entire state of Nebraska. Cargill maintains a massive production facility in Nebraska City, which is about an hour south of Omaha.

One of the top 50 largest private companies in America, pet food and supplies giant PetSmart employs 55,000 people and maintains more than 1,400 stores. Job seekers in Virginia Beach have good reason to be interested in opportunities at PetSmart — the company is currently advertising more than 300 job openings in the 50-mile area.

If you’re looking for work in Miami, PetSmart is a good place to start. The company is currently advertising openings for more than 400 positions in the 50-mile area, which puts Miami near the top of the list of cities where PetSmart is hiring. Opportunities include retail, corporate and distribution center jobs, as well as internships and jobs for recent graduates.

The citizens of Raleigh are very familiar with SAS. In fact, the company’s world headquarters is in Cary, N.C., which is just west of Raleigh. Additionally, the company’s Data Science and Advanced Analytics Forum is held at the SAS world headquarters in Cary, and all the hotels SAS recommends to visitors are in Raleigh.

A family-owned company with a century of history, Ideal Industries is actually a collection of companies that serves several industries, including data communications, electrical and aerospace. Western Forge, a large subsidiary of Ideal Industries that produces hand tools for the construction business, has been a fixture in Colorado Springs since the 1960s. The company is currently hiring in this region.

It’s likely that few businesses have more job openings in the 50-mile area surrounding Long Beach than PetSmart, which is currently advertising more than 1,600 opportunities in fields as diverse as pet stylist, pet care specialist, cashier, stocker, bather and pet training instructor. PetSmart did $7 billion in sales last year.

There are five PetSmart locations in Atlanta alone, and the company is hiring in Georgia. When you include a 50-mile metro region, PetSmart is currently advertising more than 950 jobs across all categories, including corporate, retail, distribution center and internships.

IP telephone systems giant Avaya is larger than all but 112 private companies in the United States. The company employs 11,656 people, according to Fortune. Although Avaya is headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif., the company has conducted significant business in Kansas City, and many of its employees receive training there.

Pilot Flying J is a company that operates more than 650 travel centers across the U.S. and in Canada. One of its locations, Pilot Travel Center #341, is located in North Las Vegas. The $19.6 billion company, which serves both average motorists and professional drivers, employs 27,100 people, according to Forbes.

The third-largest privately owned company in America is Albertsons, according to Forbes. The grocery store chain’s many subsidiaries contain several familiar names, including Acme and Safeway. Although Albertsons is headquartered in Idaho, the company, which employs 273,000 people, maintains a location in Mesa.

WinCo Foods is a chain with more than 100 full-service grocery stores, most of which stay open 24 hours a day. The company employs 17,000 people.

If job hunters in Sacramento are interested in WinCo, it’s probably because the company appears to be a good place to work. Not only is it employee-owned, but the business was awarded a spot on Forbes’ America’s Best Employers list.

Simpleview, which employs more than 200 people, is a business marketing solutions provider. The employer maintains its headquarters in Tucson and has a larger presence in Arizona than in any other state. As a bonus, the company’s career page lists an enticing array of company benefits, including “endless coffee” and zero rounds of layoffs in the business’ history.

Fidelity Investments is a financial services firm that offers platforms for investing and trading, as well as financial planning and advice. It also manages client money.

If Avaya is attractive to Portland residents, it’s probably because of the company’s unique corporate culture. Avaya uses its technology to benefit not just its customers, but also its employees. It encourages employee hangouts and meetups, so office friends can enjoy each other’s company outside the office, too.

Headquartered in Brentwood, Tenn., Vaco is a recruiting agency that provides consulting and project talent services, as well as retained search, contingency search and managed services.

Vaco Memphis, which is a specialized team dedicated specifically to the city, is a major player in Memphis. It’s a founding partner of the American Marketing Association of Memphis and even fields its own local barbecue and marathon teams.

Known for its trendy yet affordable apparel, Forever 21 is the 103rd largest private business in America. The company, operates more than 600 stores and employs 30,000 people, according to Forbes. Although there isn’t a Forever 21 location in Detroit, the company does maintain a store in neighboring Dearborn.

The Deloitte Boston office is one of two locations the company operates in the state of Massachusetts. If Bostonians are interested in Deloitte, that’s probably because the company is a familiar fixture in the city. As part of the business’ Impact Day, Deloitte employees in Boston volunteer at nonprofit organizations around the city.

With eight locations in and around the city, the Albertsons grocery store chain has a major presence in El Paso. The residents of El Paso have good reason to be interested in careers at the company. Albertsons is currently advertising positions in retail and pharmacy.

There are more than a dozen Camp Gladiator locations in and around Denver. The company breaks the gym model by hosting local fitness events, or camps, in the cities where it operates. Although the company isn’t currently advertising job openings in Denver, Camp Gladiator is accepting resumes from prospective employees.

Impinj uses internet of things-based technology to serve business needs. Impinj maintains its American corporate headquarters in Seattle, where the company is currently advertising more than two dozen jobs across varied fields. The company currently employs more than 200 people.

Charlotte is home to a large SAS training facility, and the company is advertising a handful of open positions in the city.

SAS has spent 20 years on the Fortune list of the most employee-friendly companies in the United States, and its team members enjoy perks like unlimited sick days and onsite childcare.

In a recent search of the 43 job openings that Cargill is advertising in Texas, nine were in Fort Worth specifically. Cargill operates two protein facilities in the city, each of which employs approximately 300 people. Pay at the two facilities ranges from $9.75 an hour to $30.90 an hour.

Cargill’s huge operation in Fresno includes three major facilities: Beef, Grind and Pet Treats. Cargill Beef alone employs nearly 1,000 people, processes 1,600 heads of cattle and produce a million pounds of trim and boxed beef every single day. Cargill Grind is dedicated solely to producing beef patties for McDonald’s.

Recruiting, hiring and training firm Elwood Staffing operates locations in two dozen cities throughout Indiana, including in Indianapolis. Elwood Staffing maintains four traditional branches in Indianapolis, as well as one specialty tradesmen branch. The company employs around 900 people.

Supermarket chain Giant Eagle maintains more than 400 stores and employs 32,000 people, according to Forbes. It is the No. 31 largest private company in the United States. The company is headquartered in Pittsburgh, which is less than 200 miles from Columbus, where the chain maintains 29 stores.

Want to find your dream job in California? Deloitte is thriving in this state, where the company has a presence in every major city. The Bay Area is especially busy, with two offices in San Francisco, as well as locations nearby in San Jose and Oakland.

Transportation and logistics services firm Crowley Maritime is popular in Jacksonville, where residents seem eager to join what Forbes reports is a 5,400-person-strong workforce. It’s a familiar face in the North Florida city. After all, Crowley Maritime maintains its headquarters in Jacksonville.

Dell is one of the biggest names in computers, printers and data storage. It’s so big, in fact, that the company employs 140,000 people across the world.

Dell has earned a spot on some prestigious lists, including the Forbes lists of America’s Best Employers, America’s Largest Private Companies and World’s Most Valuable Brands. If Austin residents are interested, that’s probably because the company’s headquarters is in Round Rock, less than 20 miles away.

Cargill Beef, which is located in the center of the city of Milwaukee, employs about 200 people. The facility provides both ground beef and fresh beef to private labels and grocery chains across the country. Jobs in the facility begin with a starting probational rate of $10.70 an hour and move all the way up to $30.

Graybar Electric is one of America’s largest private companies and the single biggest distributor of equipment for several industries, including utilities, telecommunications, networking and electrical. The company, which is 100 percent employee-owned, employs 8,500 people, according to Forbes. Graybar Honolulu, which operates by the airport, is part of the company’s network of 290 suppliers.

Fortune ranks Ernst & Young among the 30 best places in the country to work and calls it one of the best employers in both the United States and Canada. One of the largest private companies in America, it’s also considered one of the best management consulting organizations. A “Big Four” accounting firm, the company has an office on Almaden Boulevard in San Jose.

Mary Kay is one of the world’s largest companies that deals in direct sales of cosmetics and skincare products. With 5,000 employees, the company is ranked as one of the best midsize employers by Forbes and also one of the best employers of any size. Dallas residents have taken notice, which makes sense, considering the company’s headquarters is in Addison, just 15 miles away.

Health information technology firm XIFIN was named Company of the Year in 2017 by Frost & Sullivan and the North American Revenue Cycle Management for Diagnostic Laboratories. XIFIN is a popular search among job seekers in San Diego, probably because the company’s headquarters is found there.

Forbes ranks 84 Lumber, which has 5,100 employees, among the country’s best mid-sized employers and one of the largest private companies in America. In fact, it’s one of the largest private suppliers of building materials in the country. 84 Lumber maintains a store in the city of San Antonio.

The king of convenience chains in the Mid-Atlantic region, Wawa employs 30,000 people in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. If interest in the 24-7 chain is high in the City of Brotherly Love, that’s probably because the headquarters is in Wawa, which is in the Philly metro region.

PetSmart is one of the most popular searches on this list in Phoenix, where the company is headquartered. There are also plenty of opportunities for job hunters. Right now PetSmart is advertising more than 1,000 jobs across all categories in the Phoenix metro area, so don’t hesitate to apply for a position.

Deloitte has a massive presence in Texas, with offices not just in Houston, but also in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth and San Antonio. The company also maintains Deloitte University in Westlake. Right now, Deloitte is advertising more than 350 job openings in Texas.

SAS maintains a large regional office in the city of Chicago. The Windy City is also home to a large training facility. Chicagoans have a reason to flock to SAS, as Fortune ranked the company No. 15 on its list of the country’s 100 best companies to work for.

In 2012, Forever 21 opened a massive, 1.9-million-square-foot global corporate headquarters in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, not far from where the company opened its first site in 1984.
