We’re now in the autumn months, which means it’s time to start focusing on fall yard cleanup.
Some retirees reading this may not need to go out and buy all of the items mentioned if they already have these items stored in a garage or shed. Others may find they need to create a budget line specific to some of these items, especially if their existing ones are too worn out.
To help you shop, GOBankingRates made a list of nine outdoor tools retirees should shop for at Home Depot which can aid with their fall cleanup efforts. This roundup emphasized finding top-rated tools that are not more than $150 per item for retirees that may be on tighter budgets.Â
Keep reading to see which nine Home Depot items retirees should shop for this month.
Firm Grip Goatskin Leather Gloves
- Price: $7.27
Hours of outdoor hands-on work means it’s a must to protect hands with a pair of the Firm Grip brand goatskin leather gloves.Â
Inexpensive price tag aside, we chose these gloves based on how much protection they provide the hands of retirees. Each pair is made with goatskin leather on the palms and knuckles for added protection yet designed with heavy-duty jobs in mind.
Fleece lining may be found inside for all-day comfort, and a safety cuff is also sewn in to cover and protect wrists and forearms.
Fiskars Lightweight Leaf Rake and Leaf Bag
- Price: $49.98
Don’t already own a rake and see a lot of leaves piling up? For just under $50, you can shop the Fiskars leaf rake and bag bundle at Home Depot.Â
This lightweight rake features an aluminum handle to reduce weight and is designed in an ergonomic shape that makes it easy for retirees to hold. The leaf bag included has the capacity to hold up to 30 gallons of leaves. When it’s not in use, you can fold it flat for easy storage.
Barnel USA Collapsible Spring Bucket
- Price: $44.72
The more square footage you live on, the greater the chances are that you’ll need a bigger bucket for fall yard cleanup.Â
The Barnel USA collapsible spring bucket has a 43-gallon capacity to collect leaves along with other lightweight yard debris. An adjustable and padded shoulder strap, along with carry handles, is available for ease in transporting yard waste to the appropriate trash bin. When done using, simply collapse and store efficiently.
Worx Electric Leaf Blower
- Price: $105
Some retirees may be interested in shopping for a leaf blower, but the expensive price tags can put them off making a purchase.
For retirees that want to keep outdoor cleanup costs low, the Worx electric leaf blower might be their best bet. Each leaf blower is under seven pounds, making it lightweight enough to carry without sacrificing the blower’s overall power.
Positive five-star reviews from Home Depot shoppers highlight the product’s longevity. Several reviewers said they have been able to use their blower for more than a year. One reviewer, TNTOFPA, wrote that they have owned Worx brand leaf blowers for over 25 years and have not experienced any problems.
PlasticMill Black Trash Bags
- Price: $54.48
Bigger pieces of fall yard debris, or even pieces of trash unearthed in the cleanup process, need to be put into PlasticMill trash bags.Â
This 100-count set might cost more than what you’re used to paying for trash bags, but these bags mean business. Each is tough enough to hold up to 55 gallons of debris.
FELCO High-Performance Pruner
- Price: $62.46
Part of fall cleanup means taking the time to trim trees, shrubs and odd, small branches. Retirees that need a new pruner will be happy they invested in a FELCO high-performance pruner.Â
These pruners are sharp, lightweight and come with sturdy aluminum handles. Positive five-star reviews from Home Depot shoppers describe these pruners as some of the best money can buy.
Vigoro Premium Black Wood Mulch
- Price: $3.33
Mulch goes a long way in the fall months. It helps prevent weeds on young trees and shrubs, allows soil to retain moisture and can protect plants that are sensitive to cold ahead of the winter months.
With that being said, retirees are recommended to shop the Vigoro bagged black wood mulch. At just $3.33 per bag, this mulch can cover up to two cubic feet. It’s also available in brown and red wood.
Incidentally, retirees unsure which color mulch to pick can read up on how to do it via the Home Depot website.
GreenView Fairway Formula Fall Lawn Fertilizer
- Price: $78.39
Ahead of winter, it’s critical to fertilize the lawn and provide it with extra nutrients for green grass in the spring. Get started with GreenView Fairway Formula fall lawn fertilizer.Â
At 45 pounds per bag, this fertilizer works on up to 15,000 square feet. In addition to encouraging root growth, the fertilizer also works to repair any damage turf experienced due to the summer heat.
Seina Outdoor Garden Cart
- Price: $69
Fall yard cleanup isn’t as always the most lightweight task in the world, as evidenced by some of the heavy bags of mulch and fertilizer mentioned above. Move tools and trash around with ease using the Seina outdoor garden cart.Â
Each cart has a 12-cubic-foot capacity and a carry weight of 150 pounds. When not in use, retirees can fold it for compact storage.
The cart can also be used for more than just yardwork, with additional uses that include grocery runs or beach trips, and comes with two drink holders to keep you hydrated while working outdoors.
