Home Depot carries a wide variety of products, some of them very good, but some quite problematic. Whether you’re on a budget or just looking for the highest-quality items, it’s important to know what you’re buying.

These are the Home Depot items that have the most customer complaints, in some of the major product categories sold by the home improvement chain.

Appliances

A Whirlpool commercial stackable washer and dryer has only six reviews, but all of them are one star. Most of the complaints indicated the machines stopped working shortly after purchase, and Whirlpool technicians were unable to identify or solve the problem.

A Summit Appliance 2.7 cubic foot all-in-one electric washer-dryer combo was deemed too small and inefficient. According to one review, a full wash and dry cycle took about seven hours.

Flooring

Shaw Greenville engineered hardwood flooring has a rating of 2.4 out of 5 stars based on three reviews. Customers complained that the flooring’s color was much darker than shown in the pictures on the website. They expected blond flooring and received dark brown.

Selkirk’s waterproof laminate wood flooring is rated 1.7 out of 5 stars. Customers complained that the pieces could not be joined together as the joints were thin and broke as they were trying to lock them together.

Power Tools

The RIDGID heavy-duty drywall screwdriver receives its fair share of complaints from Home Depot customers. Common reasons for dissatisfaction included that it needed to be readjusted frequently or could not be adjusted correctly. In some cases, it simply didn’t work, either right out of the box or after just a few uses.

RIDGID oscillating edge/belt spindle sander had some positive reviews, but the customer experience seemed to be all over the map. Common complaints were that the sander was loud and vibrated excessively and that it did not seem to have been assembled correctly.

Outdoor Equipment

The PowerSmart 25.4cc 2-stroke gas string trimmer and brush cutter is consistently noted as being difficult to start. Complaints about the handle’s lack of durability and breaking after limited use are also common. Overall, this product has a rating of 3.6 out of 5 stars based on 35 reviews.

Customers who purchased the Ridgeline 18 in 45 cc 20-stroke handheld gas-powered chainsaw complained that it would not start, or if it did, it would not continue operating. Assembly was challenging. This chainsaw has 3.4 out of 5 stars based on 16 customer reviews.

Final Take To GO

Given the number of products offered by Home Depot, there are plenty of products to choose from that have few, if any, complaints. Doing your research before you order or go to the store — and purchasing products that have positive customer reviews — can save you time, money and aggravation in the long run.
