Amazon is the go-to online marketplace for many shoppers because of its low prices on everything from diapers and detergents to blenders and batteries.
However, not all Amazon deals are created equal. You need to do your research to determine when to buy from Amazon and when to take your business elsewhere. GOBankingRates asked top savings experts to check prices on several items you can purchase on Amazon to determine if they’re truly good buys. If you’re wondering what to buy on Amazon, check out these deals.
1. Leaf Blowers
They call it “fall” for a reason — because all those leaves that start on your tree wind up falling on your lawn. If you ever want to see your grass again, you’re going to need a good leaf blower. Better yet, get a rechargeable cordless model so you aren’t choking on gas fumes.

2. Fall Gloves
Fall — at least late fall — calls for gloves in much of the country. Sure, you probably won’t have to bust out the puffy, waterproof, snowball-fighting handwear until winter. But it’s definitely wise to have a thin but warm pair of cool-weather gloves in your jacket pocket just in case you need them.

- WearWhatNow: $15
That nice new fall jacket looks great — but it’s pretty useless if the wind can whip down through the neck opening. That’s where a fall scarf comes in. Once the weather cools off you’ll have plenty of options, but Amazon is likely the cheapest. In fact, there are dozens of secret ways to save money at Amazon.
- Amazon: $14.89
- eBay: $22.89
4. Fall Candles
There’s nothing better than coming home to a nice warm house on a chilly fall day. But warmth is as much about ambiance as it is about temperature. Warm up the room both figuratively and literally by lighting some candles with classic fall scents — but do it for less by buying at Amazon.
- Amazon: $14.99
- Sears: $28.61
5. Space Heaters
Fall is the time when it’s cold enough outside to be uncomfortably chilly in the house, but not cold enough to crank up the big, expensive central heating system. One solution is to place a small yet powerful space heater in your room at night. Heat your room for less by buying from Amazon. The company sells lots of products that will help you save money.
- Amazon: $24.99
- Sears: $29.99
6. Grass Seed
The fall grass seed you buy determines what kind of grass you’ll have come the spring thaw. Not convinced? Head to your local hardware store during the fall and see what they’re pushing toward the front of the store. You could buy it there, or get the same thing at Amazon for less.
- Amazon: $15.31
- Jet: $20.40
If you take your smoothies seriously — like ninja serious — and still want to get a good deal on a blender, Amazon might be the right choice, said Kendal Perez, savings expert at CouponSherpa. The right blender will help keep both your body and your budget in good shape. Yes, a blender is a money-saving item everyone should own.

10. Laundry Detergent
Dirt might be free, but getting it out of your clothes can cost a lot of money. Amazon can help you save by beating the competition on certain laundry detergent brands, Perez said. As an added bonus, you can get your super-sized detergent tub delivered right to your door so you don’t have to carry a heavy load home from the supermarket.

- Walmart: $21.72

Buying quality HDMI cables can be an expensive proposition. The ones that come free with equipment are often absurdly short, while longer, better-quality cables can be absurdly expensive. If you’ve ever shopped for diapers, then you’ve probably wondered if you could save money by wrapping your baby in dollar bills. While she found that Walmart and Target beat Amazon on certain brands, the online retailer is the place to go if you like Pampers.
Buying the batteries needed to power all your gizmos and gadgets can be anything but cheap. And while Perez said certain brands can be cheaper at places like Walmart, the AmazonBasics brand offers an incredible deal — 48 AA batteries for the typical price of 24 branded batteries.
