Choosing the wrong tools or home products can turn a weekend DIY project into a headache. Though many products at Home Depot are pretty affordable, they don’t always deliver on quality or long-term performance.
Here are some of the worst-reviewed Home Depot products and better alternatives that are worth the investment.
Flared Arm Modern U-Shaped Soft Velvet Sectional Sofa
- Price: $512.11
- Rating: 2.7/5
If you’re shopping for a statement piece to anchor your living room, a U-shaped sectional can seem like a great way to add lounging space. But this particular flared arm soft velvet sectional has a 2.7 out of 5 rating for a reason.
A few customers said that it’s way too small for a big family. There were also complaints about only receiving part of the sofa instead of the full sectional, which made the whole experience frustrating from the start.
A better alternative at Home Depot is the L-Shape Modular Sectional Sofa. Though it’s a bit more expensive, it comes fully assembled in individual components, so there’s no complicated setup required. You can just unpack and arrange each piece. There are also many cute colors to choose from. Â
Money Tree Houseplant
- Price: $23.10
- Rating: 3.7/5
Many buyers weren’t satisfied with the money tree houseplant by Altman Plants because it didn’t look anything like the picture online and the tree branches and stems were broken when they received the product.Â
A better alternative at Home Depot is the pachira braid indoor money tree plant by Costa Farms. It’s double the price, but much better quality. Though there were still a couple of customers who complained about issues with leaf drop, most were happy about their purchase.Â
Heat Storm Infrared Portable Space Heater
- Price: $159
- Rating: 3.7/5
Another product at Home Depot that customers aren’t so happy about is the Heat Storm infrared portable space heater. Buyers report that the heater doesn’t warm spaces as effectively as advertised, especially in larger rooms.
“The product works fine but does not heat up the square foot area it claims,” a customer said. “It would be good in maybe a small shed but anything bigger then a small shed look for other options.”
A better alternative at Home Depot is the Dr Infrared heater. It’s less expensive and has much higher customer ratings.
“This is an outstanding heater. I’ve had several of these box style space heaters, but they don’t blow as hot as this one. Even though this one is smaller in size, it out performs the bigger ones,” a satisfied customer said.
