Five Below, the 1600-store low-priced retail chain, stocks everything you never knew you needed, but had to have as soon as you saw it. The company rose to prominence by selling everything for five dollars or less — hence the name — but has since offered some items for slightly higher prices.
Bare bones stores selling high-turnover items at low prices has proven to be a winning combination for Five Below, which had $3.5B in sales in 2023.
Here are seven things that are always cheaper at Five Below.
Seasonal Décor
The company’s high-volume, quick turnover sales model is perfect for seasonal items. From Halloween costumes to holiday decorations to summer picnic supplies, check Five Below first if you’re looking to save some money.
Squishmallows
While you may not find the biggest, most in-demand of these ubiquitous stuffed toys at Five Below, they do carry a wide selection of smaller Squishmallows for $5.95, with some priced even lower. Even Amazon charges about double that for a 6.5-inch toy.
Board Games
Classic board games, like Grab & Go Connect Four, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, and chess, can be had for $5 at Five Below. There are also ‘generic’ versions of other family favorites, like memory match and pop-up games.
Beauty Products
You may not find the department store beauty brands at Five Below, but you can still get $3 nail polish and body scrub for $3.50. If your taste in cosmetics runs to higher-priced brands, you can still find supplies like nail polish remover, hair ties, and bath bombs at really low prices.
Art Supplies
If the price of brand name crayons, markers and colored pencils has you scratching your head, check out the art supplies at Five Below. You can pick up a 24-pack of crayons for $1, or a pack of 70 — yes, 70! — colored pencils for $5.00. You will find some brand name products as well, like a pack of 8 washable Crayola markers for $4.25.
Pet Supplies
There are almost as many kinds of pet supplies as there are breeds of dogs and cats. Buying the most expensive item may not be the wisest choice, especially if Fido or Fifi is a chewer. At Five Below, you can find a selection of pet beds, leashes, harnesses and more, each for $5.55 or less. Pet Halloween costumes go for $3.00-$5.55, so if you absolutely must dress your pooch as an Oscar Mayer hot dog, head to Five Below.
The Iconic Spalding Basketball
The 29.5-inch Spalding All-Star basketball may be responsible for putting Five Below on the map. The company started selling this basketball for just $5 a year after opening its first store, and the price has remained at $5 ever since. With basketballs selling at sporting goods stores for $45 or more, this ball is perfect for pick up games and one-on-one. Be aware that it comes deflated, so you’ll need a pump to pump it up. Fortunately, you can get one of those at Five Below, too, for — you guessed it — $5.
