Anytime you head to Walmart, you can find all sorts of amazing, money-saving deals. The superstore is known for having everything you need all under one roof. That being said, sometimes what you are looking for at Walmart does not actually hold up in terms of quality. Even if you are thinking of only spending $20, you might want to reconsider after doing some homework on what Walmart is placing on their shelves. Here are the worst ways that you can spend $20 at Walmart.

On the other hand, here is the best $20 you can spend at Walmart (and make it last all week).

Luxury Jewelry

If you are hoping to give your loved one some accessories to celebrate how much you love them, avoid purchasing any of the discounted jewelry on sale at Walmart.

“Buying Valentine’s gifts in February is already a no-go, but buying expensive gifts that have been severely discounted is an even bigger no,” explained Chapman. “Though these items look like an amazing deal — and some are — you should be cautious of buying jewelry that was once $150 and is now $19.99. Typically this type of jewelry isn’t the best quality and might have a defect.”

Foam Mattress Toppers

According to Mike Handelsman, owner and CEO of FoamOrder, any of the toppers at Walmart that are priced around $19.99 don’t live up to the expectations, especially if you want something that’s built to last.

“Even the kind of support it offers is passable at best,” Handelsman said. “It’s understandable because $20 is not going to buy you the kind of comfort you need. I’d invest in a high-quality foam mattress instead because you don’t want to compromise on a good night’s rest.”

Fitness Equipment

Keeping up with your health goals you made at the beginning of the year, including getting enough exercise and sticking to a meal plan that works for you. When it comes to purchasing tools to help you on your track, cut Walmart’s overly-priced fitness equipment out of your retail diet.

“If you’ve started your fitness journey in January as your new year resolution, don’t shop at Walmart for exercise equipment … Walmart often hikes its prices up on exercise products to make more money from people with fitness resolutions,” Chapman said.

Editor’s note: Pricing and availability may vary depending on location.
