America First Credit Union was founded in 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Residents in select areas of Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, New Mexico and Arizona are eligible for credit union membership. Credit unions often provide lower-cost banking services than banks.

America First offers a range of certificate terms and the minimum deposit to earn interest is relatively low at $500.

  • How to claim: You can open an account online and make the initial deposit through a transfer or check deposit.
  • When you’ll get it: Dividends are credited monthly, and accounts start earning interest as soon as they are funded.
  • Terms and conditions: You can deposit up to $10,000 each month, but the account balance can’t exceed $100,000. If you withdraw your funds before the end of the term there may be a withdrawal penalty.

Money Market Savings Account: Up to

Unlike CDs, this money market savings account doesn’t allow you to lock in an interest rate for a term. You need a high account balance to get the best rate, but you can still earn some interest even if you only have $1 in your account.

This Coverdell education savings account allows you to deposit up to $2,000 each year for a child under 18. You also won’t have to pay taxes if you withdraw the money for qualifying educational expenses.

  • When you’ll get it: Dividends are credited monthly.
