“Deadpool 2” hits theaters on May 18 and continues the story of the wise-cracking mercenary of Marvel comics fame. Much of the cast from the original is back, but there are a few new faces to round things out.
All told, after the massive success of the first “Deadpool” — the film launched with $132 million domestically and ultimately earned $783 million worldwide to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time — the sequel is expected to open to $150 million. This figure would be significantly more impressive if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s an all-but-foregone conclusion that it’s going to be only the third-largest opening for a Marvel movie this year after “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
So what does that mean for the net worths of the people involved with the film? Here’s a look inside the numbers for which “Deadpool 2” cast members are bringing in the big bucks.
Stan Lee Net Worth: $50M
Stan Lee is the undisputed guru of comic books and the mind behind some of Marvel’s most beloved characters. Stan Lee’s fortune can be credited to his role as the creator of comic book characters that became the basis for some of the biggest box-office blockbusters in history, including X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man.
The former president and chairman of the board of Marvel is still compensated $1 million annually for his role in transforming the company from a small publishing house to a global multimedia juggernaut. The 49 Marvel films Stan Lee has technical credits for have made a combined $27.2 billion worldwide, with the average film raking in more than $555 million, according to The Numbers.
Recent reports, though, indicate that Lee is at the center of a battle involving his daughter for his considerable estate.
Ryan Reynolds Net Worth: $75M
Ryan Reynolds’ net worth is $75 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. His fortune can be traced to his 76 acting credits, which date back to the 1991 TV series “Fifteen.” Box Office Mojo estimates that 31 of his movies have grossed nearly $3.86 billion worldwide.
The Canadian-born actor and husband of actress Blake Lively got his big break in 2002 with a role in the cult classic “National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.” He’s also no stranger to superhero films: In 2011, Reynolds starred in the critically snubbed “Green Lantern.” Since “Deadpool,” Reynolds has appeared beside Samuel L. Jackson in “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” and in the film “Life,” which was written by the same team — Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick — responsible for “Deadpool” and who co-wrote “Deadpool 2” with Reynolds.
Josh Brolin Net Worth: $35M
The biggest addition to the cast for “Deadpool 2” is Josh Brolin in the role of villain Cable. Brolin immediately becomes the second-wealthiest actor in the film, with a net worth of $35 million.
Cinema fans are plenty familiar with Brolin, the son of actor James Brolin. He made his film debut in the 1985 classic “The Goonies” and has been working regularly ever since, with 68 credits to his name and an Oscar nomination for his role as Dan White in “Milk.”
“Deadpool 2” won’t be the only Marvel film for Brolin this year: He appears in “Avengers: Infinity War” as the supervillain Thanos.
Terry Crews Net Worth: $20M
Born in Flint, Mich., Terry Crews was originally a football player who was drafted by the L.A. Rams in 1991. After he retired, Crews transitioned into acting and has had a number of successes since then.
Crews currently stars in the Fox comedy “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” but he has also had notable roles in “Idiocracy,” “The Expendables,” “Arrested Development” and “Everybody Hates Chris,” not to mention his very popular series of Old Spice commercials.
T.J. Miller Net Worth: $9M
Comedian and actor T.J. Miller is probably best-known for his role as the eccentric Erlich Bachman in HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” but he’s been working for some time, with credits that include playing Ranger Jones in “Yogi Bear,” “Office Christmas Party” and, of course, the first “Deadpool.”
Miller also put out a comedy special on HBO last year called “T.J. Miller: Meticulously Ridiculous,” but surprised fans and critics alike when he left “Silicon Valley.”
Morena Baccarin Net Worth: $8M
Brazilian-born Morena Baccarin’s net worth is estimated at $8 million. Her big break came with a role in “Firefly” in 2002, a short-lived TV series that was canceled after only 11 episodes but caught the eyes of critics. More recently, the actress starred as Jessica Brody on the Showtime original series “Homeland” and as Dr. Leslie Thompkins in “Gotham.”
