Amazon recently announced a new money-saving perk for Prime members — a discount on gas. Members can now save 10 cents per gallon at bp, Amoco and ampm gas stations across the U.S. Amazon’s new perk comes four years after Walmart announced a similar perk for its Walmart+ members, TechCrunch reported.

Here’s a look at how the two discounts compare.

Amazon Prime vs. Walmart+ Gas Discount: Which Has More Eligible Gas Stations?

Both the Amazon Prime and Walmart+ memberships will get you a 10-cent per gallon discount at the pump, but the discounts are only available at select gas stations.

Amazon’s discount is available at approximately 7,000 bp, Amoco and ampm gas stations across the country. Meanwhile, the Walmart+ discount is available at over 13,000 stations nationwide, including Exxon, Mobil, Walmart, Sam’s Club and Murphy stations.

The Walmart+ discount is available in more places, which can be an advantage, but the “better” discount really depends on the gas station chains that are most convenient for you. It’s also worth noting that the Walmart+ fuel discount is only 5 cents in Oklahoma and Alabama.

Amazon Prime vs. Walmart+ Gas Discount: Which Is Easier To Use?

Redeeming both gas discounts requires some extra legwork.

Amazon Prime members must be enrolled in bp’s free earnify program to get the discount. Once enrolled, to activate the gas savings perk, Prime members need to visit amazon.com/fuelsavings.

“Activating the offer will connect a member’s Amazon account and earnify account,” Amazon explained in a press release. “They can simply begin redeeming at the pump by inputting their phone number or linked payment method. Alternately, members can redeem at the pump with the free earnify app by selecting their gas station and pump they are using.”

Walmart+ members need to use the Walmart app to redeem the discount at the pump. Depending on the gas station, members will need to either scan a QR code or enter a six-digit discount ID to receive the discounted rate.
