Your daily coffee habit might be costing you just under $3 a cup, depending on where you get your caffeine fix. This means you could easily be spending about $100 or more a month to fuel your days. Just 20 years ago, that same cup would have cost you $1.79.
When the world’s largest coffee-producing countries — including Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia and Mexico — lose coffee trees or have challenges with exporting coffee, we see some of the biggest shifts in coffee prices. The effects of climate change might also be to blame for coffee bean shortages, according to BBC News. Droughts and heavy rains in coffee-producing countries means fewer exports. As a result, prices rise because of a global coffee shortage.
GOBankingRates used Square’s Coffee Report to identify the average cost of a cup of coffee in 2015, then calculated the cost for each year to 1940, adjusted for inflation. Find out how much that cup of coffee costs cost you the year you were born.
