Grocery prices have been at the top of everyone’s mind, as egg prices continue to rise. AP reported that the price of eggs hit an all-time high in February at $4.95. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index was up 3% from January 2024 to January 2025. It’s no wonder shoppers are looking for any method that will help save them money at the grocery store.

GOBankingRates reached out to consumer experts to get their takes on the best grocery subscriptions that will also save customers some money — here are the expert takes.

Walmart+

Anyone with a big family knows what a lifesaver Walmart can be. Melissa Cid is a mother and consumer savings expert for MySavings.com. Cid finds that the Walmart+ app is a game changer when it comes to shopping for her and her kids.

“As a mom of four kids, I am a huge fan of Walmart+ and their same-day grocery delivery service,” Cid said. “The low prices you see on Walmart’s website and app are the same prices as if you were shopping in-store.”  Additionally, Cid said that the app offers Walmart cash back deals, which can save customers even more money.

Cid added that places with a lot of Walmart locations nearby will have a lot of flexibility in when items are delivered. “I have even found that many grocery products like shelf-stable products and bathroom essentials even have free shipping, too, if you don’t want to plan a larger grocery order or want to save money on a tip,” she explained.

If there is an issue with an order, Cid said it’s easy to chat with customer service in the app and receive an automatic refund if applicable.

Amazon Fresh via Amazon Prime

Those with an Amazon Prime account might be missing out on potential savings on grocery essentials. Zarina Bahadur is the CEO and founder of 123 Baby Box, a subscription-based baby product company. Bahadur recommended checking Amazon Prime for big savings on grocery items.

“Prime members get exclusive discounts, but the real trick is using ‘Subscribe & Save’ for essentials. Customers who plan ahead can get up to 15% off recurring household items,” she said. “If a family spends $200 per month on groceries and schedules just 25% of their essentials this way, they save around $90 a year without changing their shopping habits.”

Instacart+

Bahadur said Instacart+ is great for shoppers who frequently need items from lots of different stores. “The membership cuts out per-order delivery fees which typically range from $4 to $10. If you shop from different stores and place three to four orders per month, the savings add up to $300 to $400 per year,” she said.

Bahadur explained that Instacart+ can be especially beneficial for Costco members. “Bulk shoppers who use Costco via Instacart can also avoid the usual service fees which can be as high as 15% per order,” she added.

Shipt

Shipt is a grocery app owned by Target. Bahadur recommended a subscription for the savings from Target alone. “With free same-day delivery on orders over $35, frequent Target shoppers can skip the $10 per-trip fee. If you use it twice a month, that is $240 saved in a year, plus exclusive member discounts that take another 5 to 10% off select items,” she said.
