Big Lots is going out of business, but that doesn’t mean you have to start paying full price. Thankfully, plenty of other discount chains offer money-saving prices on everything from groceries and household essentials to furniture and toys.
If you’ve been a Big Lots loyalist until now, it’s time to broaden your horizons. Here’s a look at five alternative discount stores to consider making part of your routine.
Also here are six things even frugal shoppers should buy, according to George Kamel.
Dollar General
Chances are, there’s a Dollar General in your local area. According to its website, the discount chain has more than 20,000 stores in 48 states, offering products in a wide range of categories — food and beverage, cleaning, health, party, pet, baby, office and school supplies and toys, just to name a few.
In addition to everyday low prices, weekly sales, digital coupons, cash back and instant savings allow you to save even more on thousands of items each week. Maximize savings by visiting the Dollar General website to seek out money-saving opportunities before shopping.
Dollar Tree
Whether you need holiday items, home décor, health and personal care products, toys and crafts or grocery items — and so much more — Dollar Tree has you covered. The store has new arrivals weekly, so stop in often to check for bargains.
Score even deeper savings by reading your store’s local ad and seeking out in-store specials. According to its website, there’s more than 16,000 Dollar Tree stores in 48 states, so you’ll likely have no trouble finding one nearby.
Five Below
As the name suggests, the majority of Five Below items are priced in the $1 to $5 range. The store offers fun and trendy products in a variety of areas, including home décor, tech, beauty, style, arts and crafts, candy and snacks, pet supplies, sports, books and party supplies.
Five Below states on their website that there are more than 1,800 Five Below stores in 44 states, so there’s a good chance you live near one. If you’ve never shopped at one before, prepare to be impressed by the fun, youthful vibe and unique products.
Family Dollar
Offering low everyday prices, most items at Family Dollar are priced between $1 to $10. For additional savings, you can also clip Smart Coupons — Family Dollar Digital Coupons — as well as manufacturer coupons.
Aisles are stocked with name-brand products at competitive prices and more budget-friendly private-label brands. Shop a wide-variety of products, including household, cleaning beauty, health and wellness, infant and toddler, apparel, personal care and food and beverages.
The Family Dollar website says there are more than 7,300 Family Dollar stores in 48 states — as well as Washington, D.C. — so find your closest one and prepare to save.
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet
As stated on Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, shoppers can get up to 70% off retail prices. Inventory changes constantly at the largest retailer of closeout merchandise and excess inventory in the U.S.
The store has several departments, such as kitchen and cleaning, flooring, hardware and home improvement, sporting goods, automotive, health and beauty and electronics.
