Who doesn’t love Costco? Certainly not the rich. The superstore has everything you need to fill up your home, mansion, ski cabin and beach house. If you are wealthy, you probably feel great shopping at Costco knowing that the money you save will go back into your account and only add to your funds.
In 2024, the wealthy seem to have some items they are particularly fond of picking up at Costco.
Here are seven Costco items the wealthy are buying in 2024 that you can consider adding to your list.
High-End Electronics
Wealthy consumers are spending their money on items like high-definition 4K TVs and smart-home systems, according to Eric Sornoso, a fan of Costco and the co-founder of Mealfan.
“These items not only add substance to their homes but are also quite cheaper when bought from Costco than, say, other stores,” Sornoso said.
“Costco’s competitive pricing on electronics attracts wealthy buyers who appreciate getting a good deal,” said Tiago Pita, a retail expert and brand director at Whole Food Earth. “They know they’re getting quality products with excellent warranties and customer service, making Costco a smart choice for big-ticket items.”
Meat
The wealthy are also picking up meat at Costco. And more specifically, grass-fed sirloin by Cuisine Solutions, according to Pita.
“Many wealthy shoppers appreciate the health benefits of grass-fed meat, and the Cuisine Solutions grass-fed sirloin is a top pick,” Pita said. “It’s not just about the quality, but also the convenience of having multiple meals from one package. Even with their resources, they value good nutrition and the practicality of cooking at home.”
Organic and Gourmet Foods
In Sornoso’s opinion, there has been a definite shift with the wealthy toward the health food products, especially organically preserved meats and cheeses as well as imported gourmet foods.
“These shoppers consider health benefits and better taste, and these firms offer these products at affordable prices to Costco,” Sornoso said.
Yogurt
Turns out the wealthy love the Kirkland brand, Costco’s in-house line of goods, as much as every other class of Costco shopper.
“This might surprise some, but Kirkland’s Greek yogurt is a staple for many millionaires,” Pita said. “They love the balance of taste, nutrition and value. Despite the availability of fancier options, the consistent quality and affordability make it a go-to for breakfast.”
Luxury Skincare Products
Sornoso said that the high-end skincare products in Costco’s aisles are alluring to well-off customers.
“The second element of the ‘4C’ model refers to the price, and here, one discovers that Costco provides luxury beauty products at a much lower cost than one would be willing to pay at other stores,” Sornoso said.
Designer Apparel and Accessories
“Designer wear is yet another category where more affluent consumers are splurging, and Costco has a good range in this segment,” Sornoso said.
These items, from Sornoso’s perspective, provide the glamour of luxury retail outlets without necessarily having to pay the high-end prices found in luxury retail stores.
Produce
High-end taste also includes veggies, fruits and other produce that you can get at a great price from Costco. That’s why the rich skip the farmer’s market and head straight to their favorite giant grocer.
“Wealthy shoppers often choose Costco for their produce because of the freshness and quality available at competitive prices,” Pita said. “The convenience of purchasing in bulk and the assurance of getting fresh, high-quality fruits and vegetables make Costco a preferred destination for their grocery needs.”
