Publix has a lot to offer. The grocery store is somewhat of a culinary wonderland — and it has plenty of nonfood items as well. But that doesn’t mean every product on the shelves is worth the money.

For a special occasion, you can’t beat this Publix chocolate red velvet cake. It serves eight to 10 people for a fraction of the price you’d likely pay for a specialty cake at most standalone bakeries.

Settle: Publix Bakery Buttercream Assorted Cupcakes

No matter what you’re celebrating, these buttercream assorted cupcakes are a good idea. Though they come in just chocolate and vanilla flavors with minimal icing, so you won’t get much variety.
A pack of six, they’re regularly priced at just about $1 each, which is cheaper than you’ll pay at most specialty bakeries. And they’re currently on sale for just $4.99.
Settle: Publix Deli Popcorn Chicken Platter

A chicken platter is sure to be a hit with both kids and adults. This small fresh popcorn chicken platter from Publix is a decent option. It serves 10 people, but some shoppers shared on Reddit that they don’t love the taste of the popcorn chicken.
At $23.99, it’s a good, cost-effective choice. In comparison, a small tray of Chick-fil-A nuggets — which serves eight people — costs notably more at $37.
Skip: Publix Seafood Claw Platter

Made to serve 10, this seafood claw platter consists of ready-to-eat lobster claws and snow crab cocktail claws. It’s also served with lemon slices and mustard dipping sauce.Â
But this platter is pretty expensive. Trying to make sure it is not dominated by just a few party guests or doesn’t accidentally sit out too long and go bad can be a task no one wants.
You may actually be able to find a small seafood tower at a local steakhouse for less than this price, so consider opting for that on a fancy night out instead.
Skip: Hallmark Large Gift Bag

If you’re short on time, you might be tempted to buy a large Hallmark gift bag at Publix — but don’t. While the price isn’t available on Publix’s website, Instacart has it listed for $7.79.
For less than the price of this one item, you can get a five-pack of large gift bags at Five Below, along with a 20-sheet pack of tissue paper.
