That’s why Musson recommended getting a furnace air filter to keep it clean, and hopefully keep utility bills low. “The filter you choose will be specific to your furnace, but a clean filter will allow your furnace to work with more efficiency, eliminating wasted power,” Musson said.

“Instead of leaving hallway or bathroom lights on, opt for LED night lights with sensors that turn on only when it’s dark or detect motion,” said Kelly Russum, owner of KC’s 23 1/2 Hour Plumbing & Air Conditioning.

They’re a great DIY project that can noticeably lower bills,” he said.
