You might think that luxury comes only from brand names. You fear that you’ll have to spend big money to get the rich flavors, silky or voluptuous fabrics and durable goods that you want. However, before you stare down at your credit card and sigh, just know that you have other options before visiting your local outlet store or going to an online boutique.
In fact, if you’re a Walmart shopper, you can find the high quality you want right on the aisles — getting luxurious goods at decidedly down to earth prices. Walmart store brand products offer you everything you’d expect from brand name products, at prices that are considerably cheaper.
GOBankingRates took a look at some of the Walmart brand items that will have you convinced that you’ve splurged for a luxury option.
Equate Lotion
Comparing ingredients between store brands and name brands is one way to find out if the store-brand product you’re interested in buying will measure up.
Tiara Rea-Palmer, director of partnerships at CouponFollow, said that Equate goods are comparable to other skin care brands.
“Their lotion, for example, has the same or similar ingredients as top brands like Eucerin, CeraVe and Aveeno.”
You can find a 33-ounce bottle of Equate Daily Moisturizing lotion for $7.48 at the discount retailer. The brand is reportedly comparable to Aveeno for Dry Skin, which is $8.98 for a 12-ounce bottle at Walmart.
Equate Medications and Supplements
“Their medications are FDA-regulated and must contain the same active ingredients as name-brand medications, so they’re safe, effective and cheaper,” Rea-Palmer said.
“General health and wellness items made by Equate, such as their aspirin and even their vitamins and supplements, work just as well as their brand-name counterparts and are an inexpensive way to make sure your medicine cabinet is stocked up,” she added.
A 100-count bottle of Equate ibuprofen with a 200 mg dosage will cost you $2.12. A 50-count bottle of Advil with the same dosage will run you $7.64.
Parent’s Choice Baby Goods
“The Parent’s Choice brand is an excellent alternative for baby goods,” Rea-Palmer said. “Their diapers stand up to the kid tests and are comfortable for babies, their formulas have the same ingredients as name brands and their accessories and toys are perhaps a bit cheaply made, but they’ll last for as long as a baby needs them.”
A 44-count box of Parent’s Choice size one diapers is $4.62 or just under 11 cents per diaper at Walmart, which means you’ll save a considerable amount of money compared to name-brand versions. You can expect to pay 30 cents or more per diaper for more well-known packages.
Great Value Fully Cooked Homestyle Meatballs
The appropriately named Great Value brand from Walmart offers a lot of go-to delectables, from dinnertime to snack time. Whether you’re looking to serve a dinner of spaghetti and meatballs for four after a busy day or simply loading up your meatball sub for game day, you’ve got to have the main attraction. This 32-ounce pack of frozen homestyle meatballs goes for only $7.47, while a similar Italian style meatball from Cooked Perfect can be priced at $15.99 at Safeway.
Great Value Lemon Scent Disinfecting Wipes, 75 Count
Disinfecting wipes are the MVPs of your kitchen or bathroom, and you’re going to need to stock up on a lot of them. Priced at just $3.48, this 75-count of Great Value disinfecting wipes brings you all the fresh scent and disinfecting power of the famous Clorox disinfecting wipes — at a considerably lower cost. Even at Walmart, a similar count of the Clorox brand wipes goes for $5.52.
Great Value Soft & Strong Premium Toilet Paper
Toilet paper might just top the list of household items you need to buy in bulk. The Great Value brand has all the durability you’d come to expect in name brands, while offering you 12 mega rolls — the equivalent of 48 regular rolls — for only $9.98. While the Cottonelle brand also makes a 12 mega roll pack, unfortunately, it costs $12.98.
Great Value 100% Arabica Donut Shop Coffee Pods
If you are a daily coffee drinker, you will want to check out Walmart’s Great Value brand 100% Arabica Donut Shop Coffee Pods. A 96-count box costs $28.62.
The brand gives “you the best value for its taste, flavor and convenience,” said Nunzio Ross, CEO of Majesty Coffee. “While it can be more expensive to buy coffee pods than ground coffee, this well-priced big box is worth it if you are going for a new experience and flavor with your coffee in the morning.”
Please note, pricing and availability may vary depending on location.
