7 Groceries To Buy in Bulk at Costco Now Before Prices Rise for Winter

Do you feel a chill in the air? That’s because autumn is about to start, which means that winter is on the way. While you might be pulling out the jackets, gloves and hats to prepare, another smart move would be to head to Costco to get some groceries in bulk. Whether you are a long time shopper at Costco or completely new to the store, there are ways to not only stock up, but save for the upcoming winter months.

That’s because the giant warehouse retailer has great prices on large quantities of everyday products for you and your family. What’s more: buying now is the smart move, before prices go up in the winter. Saving these buys for a cold, snowy day will save you not only a trip back to the grocery store, but some money in your wallet, as well.

GOBankingRates asked some Costco shoppers and fans to give their seven groceries to buy in bulk at Costco before prices rise this winter.

• Price: $7.99 for eight 14.5-ounce cans

Tomatoes and other canned goods are useful during the winter season, because they can be stored for a long time, according to Joni Ogle of Transcend Recovery Community, who is a parent and Costco shopper.

“During the cold months, producers tend to raise their prices slightly more than when the demand is low,” said Ogle.

• Price: $19.99 for 194 fluid ounces

This detergent has enhanced cleaning capabilities and is priced much lower than most other detergents sold by Costco competitors, in the opinion of Eric Sornoso, a fan of Costco and the co-founder of Mealfan.

“At 146 loads per container, it’s a cheaper product that gives consumers more value, especially for those who want to cut the expenses,” Sornoso said.

• Price: $21.99 for a 25-pound bag 

“Rice is a relatively cheap storage staple food that serves a wide variety of purposes,” said Ogle. “If the supply chain is interrupted, the cost may increase, so it will be wise to purchase in bulk now.”

• Price: $15.99 for 18 cartons of 8 fluid ounces each

This particular organic milk is the best for families, as it is highly nutritious and relatively cheaper than other organically produced products, according to Sornoso.

“[This pack] guarantees that there is enough for the whole family, and purchasing in large amounts assists in setting a lower per gallon price than competitor shops,” added Sornoso.

• Price: $16.99 for 3 pounds

“Challenges associated with the production of coffee beans in the global market will lead to increased coffee prices,” explained Ogle. 

“Costco’s bulk offering is an excellent deal,” she added.

• Price: $10.99 for a 4.5-pound bag

Quinoa is a grain with many uses, and as Sornoso said, it’s “packed with nutrients and can easily be incorporated into the diet in different ways, such as in salads and as side dishes.”

“This large 4.5-pound bag delivers very tasty, free of additional fat and truly healthy food that you eat to feel full for a long time and spend less,” Sornoso said.

• Price: $22.99 for a 2-liter bottle.  

“[Cooking oils] are necessities, and their prices are expected to rise because of problems in agriculture,” Ogle said. “Thus, buying in bulk now is cheaper than in the future.”
