With 1,700 locations across North America, Lowe’s is second only to Home Depot (2,300) in size for home improvement retail chains. While, for most home repair and gardening needs, you could be forgiven for not seeing much of a difference, there are some name brands you might want to steer toward a Lowe’s for.
Here are five items for which Lowe’s is the optimum choice.
StainMaster Carpet and Flooring
According to Better Homes & Gardens, the StainMaster line of carpets and vinyl flooring is one of the best on the market for those on a budget — starting at under $2 per square foot. It’s sold exclusively at Lowe’s, which also offers installation. You’ll have your work cut out for you when choosing a style, too. StainMaster has more than 4,000 designs, styles and color choices. Some lines, such as the PetProtect line of carpets, come with up to 25-year warranties.
EGO Outdoor Power Equipment
Love doing yard work but hate gasoline, oil-mixing and exhaust? EGO all electric, cordless lawnmowers, trimmers and other outdoor equipment is probably a great fit. They’re exclusive to Lowe’s, as well. The power tools use a unique recharging system in which one rechargeable battery fits 80 tools. The line is fairly broad, and includes everything from walk and riding mowers to chainsaws and snow blowers.
Valspar Ultra Paint
Depending on the size of your home, interior paint can really add up. Therefore, scoring a deal on quality paint is a priority. Lowe’s carries many types of paint, but their high-quality Valspar Ultra is exclusive to them. Starting at around $30, it also comes in at more than $7 less expensive per gallon than Home Depot’s high-quality brand, Behr Ultra, according to bargain-hunting website The Krazy Coupon Lady.
Skil Power Tools
If you make your living with power tools and need professional-grade equipment with specific high-end features, shopping around is likely a great idea. However, if you’re a weekend DIY warrior whose budget calls for entry-level power tools, Lowe’s Skil and Craftsman brands are a good bet. According to The Krazy Coupon Lady, they are about $10 less on average than Ryobi, which is Home Depot’s entry-level brand.
Pella Windows
These high-end windows are exclusive to Lowe’s, with the exception of Pella showrooms throughout the country. However, although it might seem like buying directly from the maker would be a less expensive option, TodaysHomeowner.com said Lowe’s is up to 20% cheaper on many designs. Lowe’s is also more likely to have a location near you, have help with financing and be a better overall fit for most people, according to The New York Post. That said, Lowe’s does not carry every style, while Pella Stores do. Ultimately, if you’re on a budget and still want these quality windows, Lowe’s might be worth a visit.
