Kohl’s is a stand-alone department store that recently reported $3.4 billion in revenue in their 2025 third-quarter press release. It’s known for offering great products, diverse brands, convenient store hours and significant discounts and coupons to its customers.
However, Kohl’s faced controversy in 2025, according to Fortune, including the firing of its CEO for failing to disclose a personal relationship with a vendor. Now, the retail chain is under new leadership as it heads into the busy holiday season.
Here is a list of items customers can’t return, plus details about Kohl’s extended holiday return policy.
Items Ineligible for Returns at Kohl’s
Kohl’s has a standard return policy that allows most returns within 90 days, even if a customer doesn’t have a receipt. However, some items are ineligible for returns. Here are some examples.
Gift Cards
Once a customer purchases a gift card at Kohl’s, it’s considered final sale. Customers cannot return gift cards in exchange for a cash refund, even if the gift card is unused.
Opened Breast Pumps
If a customer purchases a breast pump from Kohl’s and opens the package, they will not be able to return it. Breast pumps are medical devices, so once a customer opens it, it cannot be returned, even if it’s in new condition. Customers also can’t return breast pump accessories.
Final Sale Items
Store items marked final sale can’t be returned to the store, even if the item is damaged. Customers who want to purchase a final sale item should look at it thoroughly to ensure they are not torn, ripped or damaged in any way.
Food and Beverages
It’s tempting to purchase items in the checkout line at Kohl’s, including food, drinks and candy. However, once someone buys a perishable item, they cannot return it, even if the bag or drink is unopened.
Used Beauty Purchases
According to the official Kohl’s exchange page, in order to return beauty purchases, the items must be in new or gently used condition. Customers have to return beauty items within 30 days. That includes beauty items purchased at Sephora.
Kohl’s Extended Return Policy
According to Consumer Affairs, Kohl’s offers a much longer return window than usual during the holidays. Customers who buy items between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 can return items through Jan. 31, 2026. However, purchases from Sephora at Kohl’s are excluded from this extended return policy.
